Netplay is as old as Nesticle & ZSNES. The question is, how well does it work?

Yeah, I saw that on NESdev a couple months ago...

Pretty neat. I haven't kept up with his progress since then, if any. The cool thing is that he said he'd make it open source so any one could build their own SNESoIP device.

It seems the developers have done nothing to address the issue of sync.

One cool thing in that thread tho was talking about the SNES port basically being a serial input. The guy making the SNESoIP had some kind of keyboard that he hacked to use on the SNES. There was talk about how if that's possible, then it should be simple to make an adapter to use a PS/2 mouse on the SNES. This would be beneficial since the SNES mouse is old and they're all getting worn out.

This seems kinda like the old XBAND SNES/Genesis modems. The transmitting of button presses is interesting stuff.

Apparently X-Band worked in a similar way, transmitting controller data, but the X-Band required the games to be patched in order to work. I guess the X-Band (in part) functioned as a Game Genie to patch the games.

This is crazy! I have never heard of this! I would have loved this back in the 90's if it was possible then!

True, but those are via emulator and this is via the console. There's severe latency issues here, but then again, there's also latency issues with netplay in SNES emulators, though not nearly as bad as what we're currently seeing in SNESoIP.
