Hey guys (and gals). I got a question for some of you that may have done something similar before.
I've been a gamer since the early days of the NES (yes....I'm getting old... LOL) and I enjoy collecting. I didn't even start to consider it "retro" until the current crop of kids started collecting. LOL.
Anyway, I digress. Let me get to the point. I have pretty much every system, and I have a ton of games. Space is starting to become an issue, and I find that although I love to look at my retro Nintendo collection, I rarely use any of it. When I play anything older than PS2, I typically turn to emulation, because I can get a better picture with filters and 240p and whatnot.
I've really started to enjoy collecting PS2 games. Anyway, my question is, for those of you that have sold off part of your collection, have you regretted it later? I'm thinking of selling off my NES, SNES, Genesis collection. I know that I'll NEVER be able to replace most of the stuff I have if I do. And I'll likely make decent money on the sell. But that's not really what I'm after. I just feel like this stuff is going to waste being owned by me. I'd rather have a larger PS2 collection or something. I'd also really like the extra space.
Again, I'm worried that 5 years from now, I may be living in some house I bought with an awesome basement or something, and I won't have near the collection I have now if I sell most of it off. Then I'll be bummed about that. Or, maybe I'll look at it as, "Hey, I collected, I enjoyed it, and I'm moving on."
I consider myself a retro gamer, but the games that get the most attention from me on a daily basis are current gen games. So I just feel like it might be time to move on. Any constructive criticism out there?

Look for one of the many other 'thinking of selling my games' or 'barely play my stuff' threads that have been started every now and then.

Re: Torn on Retro
I sold my Genesis collection a couple years back in order to start collecting for the Snes, and while I think it was and still is a good idea, I regret having all those great Genesis games.
But I kept all my favourite/rare Genesis games incase I ever rekindled the relationship, so If you do end up selling your collection I advise you keep your favourite games.

Try PMing mas on this subject

I am buying all Saturn games, PM me with your offerings and I will let you know if I need the game or not! (Everything must be CIB)
Currently trying to knock off all the sports games, would like to get them <$5 each! Of course if you would like to donate them I will gladly pay the shipping!

You've got it, right there. Memories are only a flash cart or emulator away these days if you find yourself nostalgic for an old purchase. Otherwise, free up the space, declutter your brain and enjoy your passion for PS2.pvt_awol wrote:Or, maybe I'll look at it as, "Hey, I collected, I enjoyed it, and I'm moving on."

What Hobie said. I would actually read through some of those threads too. There is much pain and regret. Also freedom. It's worth reviewing other collector stories.Hobie-wan wrote:Look for one of the many other 'thinking of selling my games' or 'barely play my stuff' threads that have been started every now and then.

Unless you really need the cash, storage bins are always a great option.
Feel free to sell off any games you don't enjoy however.
It's unlikely you'll miss those, even if they're otherwise widely-considered classics.

This. Don't sell off any of the, "I can never get back" stuff. Most large collections are made up of things you'll probably never play so keep that in mind as you go through your stuff.Hazerd wrote:Sell off and keep only the quintessential, no need to go all out.
Though I understand it can be difficult to pick and choose.
Or as someone else suggested, buy some big storage totes and pack everything away for a while. They'll save space and keep your games dust-free until a time you can properly display them. I went this route when moving to another state recently.
