I am just glad to hear that the 64 I have is going to live a long life.., at least according to Mod_Man_Extreme.
Even if the console survives, how does the controllers survive 20 years of button mashing?

With an N64, button mashing isnt the issue. The control sticks are prone to getting loose and not functioning properly.
Re: How Is Your SNES Gaming Going?
Well, my concern comes from going through four different N64 consoles. Apples and oranges I'm sure, but I'm not handy enough with a soldering iron, nor knowledgable enough to understand what in the blue hell I would be doing to try and fix it anyway. One I'm pretty sure had a full on capacitor failure, as you stated, as I brought it to a guy who pretty much said, "Yeah, this thing is toast."Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:You can't and won't break your SNES or just about any other cartridge based console from just using it,s1rweeze wrote:I use original hardware (except recording, then it's SNES9x) but I'd like to be able to retire my original SNES from December '91 while it still works. I just dread the day it doesn't turn on or doesn't work, that would just destroy me. May have to see how the Retron 5 looks.
I was going to get it anyway to play GBA games on it. Yeah I'm aware that GC has an add-on, but I have zero interest in buying a GC. I'm really anxious to see how the Retron 5 will do regardless.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:If you pick up a Retron you'll be greeted with lousy sound, crappy video output and glitchy half-baked game compatibility all laughing at the $50 or more you just wasted on it.

@Mod_Man_Extreme
I always felt my 64 has weak signal, colors seem too dim . Do you think it needs any replacement in the electronic parts? Or is this how the 64 works ?

What video cable are you using?
Re: How Is Your SNES Gaming Going?
Original composite , I am not aware there are other options. Maybe S-Video but we do not have that in this regionalienjesus wrote:RCBH928 wrote:@Mod_Man_Extreme

Yeah, unfortunately it could be the video cables fault. S-Video is the N64s best option, but as you say it's not that common outside of the US (my UK TVs have never had S-Video either). N64 doesn't support RGB by default either, but you can get it modded to enable RGB output if you're inclined.

One of my pet hates regarding the N64! That plastic on plastic grinding away of that analogue stick.alienjesus wrote:With an N64, button mashing isnt the issue. The control sticks are prone to getting loose and not functioning properly.
I "fixed" that problem on one of the controllers with a couple strips of sellotape. It's kinda stiff now but at least it does work. Don't know how long that will last though.

Re: How Is Your SNES Gaming Going?
some one here pointed me to an ebay place where they sold N64 analogue stick replacement which was very easy to replace... but it is kind of differenet (better in a way)but if you are a hardcore guy who wants to use exactly the original stick you might not want to use that
Re: How Is Your SNES Gaming Going?
Why is the SNES thread derailing into N64 talk? Just make a "How is your N64 Gaming Going?" thread.
There's the "Gamecube-like" sticks...
They're a little more sensitive then the original.
Then there's this one...
I haven't tried one yet, but this reminds me, I've wanted to. They state that "Hyperkin has gone through extensive efforts to create a perfect replacement, resulting in a re-mastered version of the analog stick that has the feel of the original analog stick."
