This game is outstanding

I know this is a primarily retro gaming site, and we all love our old systems, but I really just can't help but spread the excitement when I play any game that is just fantastic.

Valkyria Chronicles is just about the best game I've played in a long, long time. I was just wondering if anyone else has played it and would like to comment? Or if anyone has questions, I'd be happy to answer them. The game is just amazing, plain and simple.

I hope it performs well for Sega's sake. The market should reward them for outputting better quality software.

Hopefully. I've come to terms with the fact that I don't follow the mainstream gamer's opinion. It just makes it all the more potent when an exciting, well-made game comes out that actually has something new to offer.

The combat system in VC is unparalleled. I've never played anything like it, and I love when that happens. I'm so sick of the same old boring garbage, you know? How many times can you play through a WW2 FPS, or a standard "Save the world as a 14 year old anti-hero" JRPG?

Games like that were great on the PS1, Saturn and SNES, but why haven't they thought of anything new lately? I wish the "different" Sega games sold better, because they were one of the last companies trying new things. Jet Set Radio, for example. But they just don't sell for some reason.

Anyway, VC is everything I look for in videogames, so if you're at all interested you should pick it up and spend a couple hours with it. It's addicting.

VC's system definately needs to be in more games. It's a perfect blend of the careful strategic planning alongside a bit of action. And the visuals are astounding.

I just picked it up and I'm pretty impressed, I hope the combat picks up a little bit and weapons get more interesting. I'm only 1 hour into the game though. I think with all the top tier titles coming out this time year it going to be lost on store shelves. Its almost like Sega wanted it to fail, I hope it does well though we don't get to many original, innovative titles anymore.

Got it on day of release but I've yet to start it. Trying to get rid of my backlog of games at the moment and saving the best till last.

I've played the demo so I know I will love the game. Graphics are amazing. And having characters from Skies of Arcadia in it is a great bonus.

Will it sell well? I hope that it does but I think it wont do that well since its not released at the best of times. And the fact that its cel shaded will put a lot of people off (IMHO). Its also a SRPG which is a niche market anyway.

TO poster about the combat : It definitely picks up in both the action elements as well as strategy. About 5 hours in you really need to start thinking tactically, and when it comes to the 3rd person action aspects you really need to be quick and thoughtful. It's great.

Plus, you start developing some really cool weaponry and learning cool special moves (orders).
