The N64 had some great fighting games honestly. Sure there were not many, but some were incredibly unique. Rakuga Kids, and Fighters Destiny are two that stand out to me for being different visually and mechanically respectively.

I always found Fighter's Destiny to be forgotten by many fans of fighting games because it was on a system that people never associated for Fighting games, but also because the gameplay was so drastically different from the typical Street Fighter or Tekken style games.

Absolutely. When I was younger, my best mate had an N64 and we had so much fun playing Fighter's Destiny. I think it was really quite unique and fun.

I remember renting Fighter's Destiny (and the sequel that drops the "'s" in the title for some reason) and thinking it was pretty fun. That was years ago though.

I wouldn't mind getting it again.

After seeing the praise of Tetris DS in the Random Thoughts thread:

Tetris DS, like every single Tetris with infinite rotation is automatically pointless in single player and dumb in multiplayer. The Super Rotation System sucks and should be burned with fire but it won't.

Here's another: Those "in the vein of an old game" will never be as good as the originals unless people from that era are involved and even then it's suspect. We won't see any new quality Sonic soon because the skills neccesary to make it are gone.

No I haven't played it, I'm still trying to beat Gradius II and I'll probably follow with Gradius III so I haven't looked into it.

I did however play Castlevania Rebirth and found it quite awful

I think all the ReBirth games were done by M2 (The company that did the excellent Mushihimesama Futari port), so they might be more adept with shmups. I haven't tried the vania ReBirth though.

I think you'd like it.

On a side note, I hope you are going for Gradius III arcade. :)

Do I look like a Nintendo baby to you? Of course I'm going for the arcade version

But let's first see if I beat Gradius II.

How many of those games are English friendly?
Well I'm sure you've heard people talk about Animal Crossing. 8)
Point to you. Yes I have....when they talk about Gamecube games
Sin and Punishment, Bangai-O, Custom Robo V2, Bomberman 64, Goemon: Mononoke Sugoroku, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Dezaemon 3D are all action-oriented and could be played without too much Japanese knowledge. The other games I listed are either RPGs or are somewhat text-heavy.
So over half of those games, then? That's ...not too bad, actually. I'm going to have to do a couple of Youtube searches.

I hate the obsession that fans have with rankings games.

- What are your top 5 NES games?
- What are your top 5 platformers that start with the letter N?
- What are your top 5 SNES games to play on a Sunday afternoon while wearing a grey sweater and eating a burrito?
- What are your top 5 video game companies that have released at least 20% of their games on a Tuesday?

Enough! Just play the games and enjoy them. Stop turning gaming into some sort of demented DBZ power levels competition.
