If the internal memory battery is dead, I would suggest to not even bother replacing it and just get the backup cart. The internal memory really doesn't hold a lot, maybe a few games at best, so you'll always have to delete game saves to play newer ones.
Also, for example, Shining Force CD... The game is split into two chapters and when you beat both, you unlock another playing mode. But, the internal memory on the Sega CD can only fit one Shining Force CD save at a time, making it impossible to ever beat both chapters and unlock the third. I'm sure there's other games out there with the same problem.

Re: Sega CD 2 Power
The internal battery works, all 125 blocks of it. The bad thing is that I was playing shining force cd and it takes 100 blocks (99 for one save and 1 for another)
So I was not able to save anything else.... I was playing Popful Mail and it keep giving me an error message... So I will wait until I find a ram cart to play shining force cd.
Right now I am playing Vay and Popful Mail using the internal memory. I did win a cart of ebay so I am now playing the waiting game.

Hello
New to the site
and I did not pay much attention to the dates on the posts
but if i found this on a search I'm sure someone else will
OK moving right along
for what its worth
The Sega Gen.1
Sega CD1 (bottom unit)
& Sega CD 2 (side unit)
all took the same powers supply
if you have a CD2 unit that does not power on
even with a good power pack
then it is the notorious resistor (fuse) inside
and an easy fix
need more info let me know

Re: Sega CD 2 Power
Thanks. About a month ago I got a fuse from ebay and soldered it on the mainboard. All is good now.MadMan wrote:Hello

Re: Sega CD 2 Power
I purchased a replacement, of the same fuse, off ebay from this guy:

Then I desoldered the old one and put this one in. Pretty quick and painless.
