Death of PSP coming soon?
Re: Death of PSP coming soon?
Piracy isn't a cult. It's probably as mainstream as ever. As an example, the PC version of World of Goo has a piracy ratio of 9:1. I'm also speculating the 360 has a pirate base of at least 30%. The only genuine attach rates and sales figures you can rely on belong to the PS3.

Yeah, the Dreamcast was one of the first consoles that could be used for more than just gaming.REPO Man wrote:No. No, it isn't.racketboy wrote:Dare I say it's like the Dreamcast of handhelds?
With its ability to play various types of audio files, video files, picture files, and you can DL demos for it. AND the Model 3000 can output games right onto the TV, and the screen doesn't blur like the old one.
AND it can play import games, go online, and supports wireless multiplayer.
And let's not forget the countless great games out for it.
While the Nintendo DS is the best portable game console on the market, the PSP's capabilities as both a game console, portable media player, and wireless internet source make it too good to be the "Dreamcast of handhelds".
Sorry, Racketboy. Looks like this time, you're off by a long shot.
Plus you got the whole homebrew thing.
I stand by my statement.

I agree. Comparisons like that can never be completely accurate.mobiusclimber wrote:Sorry, but I like the original games on the DC a lot more than I like the original games on the PSP. In fact, I've only really enjoyed Jeanne D'Arc so far, and not nearly as much as games like Skies of Arcadia, PSO, Grandia 2 or Sword of the Berzerk.racketboy wrote:Dare I say it's like the Dreamcast of handhelds?
I know, a totally off-the-cuff remark gets completely over-analyzed.
I was kinda just throwing the statement out there for the most part, but like I said in my previous response, there are some similarities.

Re: Death of PSP coming soon?
Well its hard to define what is a dead system. Is it a game with no new releases, like saturn? Is it a game that you dont find its games on store shelves any more, like N64? Is it game no one play its games, no one will buy, no one knows how to fix it if it goes wrong , like virtualboy?
I know dreamcast has no new games, but I just got one, and its games are great! I am saying this after I bought 360 AND Wii. A lot more people are enjoying these games that maybe were not appreciate as much needed back then. People still play dreamcast.
As for PSP, I think its really not going to die. I am guessing maybe if sony is making another handheld.

the point is that there is very little support left, when im talking about it dying im talking about new games to look foward to and being released,kingmohd84 wrote:Well its hard to define what is a dead system. of course, not even atari 2600 is dead, but the definition of dead here is low to no official full studio releases.
like i said, from now (11/14) till holidays, there are only 5 psp releases, which is very pathetic.
when i companies dont support a system with games, at a time when consuming is the highest is a very bad sign.
to me, low support=death anyways (which doesnt mean i wont stop playing all the older games)

Re: Death of PSP coming soon?
Has anyone mentioned Sqaure Enix yet? Crisis Core sold a ton of copies, and Square has more games planned for the PSP like Final Fantasy:Dissidia and a new Kingdom Hearts game. I can see the PSP at least staying popular in Japan for awhile. Nippon Ichi also has a new platforming game coming out which is a spinoff of Disgaea.
It'd be a shame for the PSP to start pushing up daisies. It's an INCREDIBLE little machine, far better than the DS. I mean the DS has a great library, but just looking as the specs and what both machines are capable of the PSP kicks its ass.
I really don't like seeing great things die an early death. The Dreamcast had plenty to offer and we never got to see that potential and we're still just scratching the surface with the PSP. Just a shame to see such great hardware go to waste.

well, it came out in 2005, its almost 2009, 4 years now,
im def disappointed with the upcoming releases though, especially since they just released a new model (ill say it again, only 5 now untill holidays)
i have a nintendo ds as well, as a sports game fan nintendo ds freakin sucks,
psp has mlb the show (amazing game), madden, tiger woods (much better than ds version, but new version kinda has shitty mechanics), nba the inside, its really does the trick for sports gamers,
i dont know, i kinda like the ds, but i looovveee my psp

A) The Dreamcast's main strength came from its homebrew community, whereas the PSP's strength comes from far more. I mean, aside from the PSP's homebrew community (which Sony goes to great lengths to discourage), it has various audio and video playback capabilities, a multitude of great games, and a constantly changing list of new features (remember when they added the Internet Browser, which can playback SWF files?).racketboy wrote:Yeah, the Dreamcast was one of the first consoles that could be used for more than just gaming.REPO Man wrote:No. No, it isn't.racketboy wrote:Dare I say it's like the Dreamcast of handhelds?

B) *clickable link*According to IGN, there's a SHITLOAD of games in the pipeline.
So it seems as though that it is possible that the whole "dying PSP" thing is in fact a rumor based on the system's inability to drum up new releases for the last quarter of the year. And to be fair, there are currently gobs of games out right now for the PSP, and maybe Sony is telling publishers to hold off on releases, so as to move the already copious amounts of games currently out.

Re: Death of PSP coming soon?
Maybe I'm alone on this, but (regardless of console) have there really been any good handheld games released in the past two years or so? The only handheld game that I would buy this Christmas is Star Ocean, it's the only decent title that I'm aware of. I can't think of any upcoming titles for these consoles either. Someone help me out.
Re: Death of PSP coming soon?
So there are three upcoming games for the handhelds that I'm looking out for:
Chrono Trigger DS
Star Ocean 2 - PSP
Ys I & 2 - DS
But this last year has had a bunch of awesome releases. We got Etrian Odyssey 2, Izuna 2, Final Fantasy IV, Dragon Quest IV, Star Ocean 1, Yggdra Union PSP, Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, and probably others that didn't appeal to me but others liked.
