Are there still releases for WiiWare and VC console, btw? I must have asked this question about a million times in this forum by now. Either no one answered me or I got short memory loss
No. Last WiiWare release was Retro City Rampage back on Feb. 28th and last VC games was Sengoku 3 on June 6th.

Not sure what the difference between what constitutes "WiiWare" opposed to WiiU E Shop releases aside from the branding.
I think the WiiWare and VC releases were very small in numbers considering the 100m install base. I can be wrong but looks to me that the PSN and XBL got a ton more digital titles and downloadable content.

I am looking after WiiWare because I want titles that will work on the Wii not the Wii U. I would imagine the Wii U E Shop has a minimum requirement of a Wii U system.

There used to be a Nintendo channel where they would put video reviews and updates on Nintendo, are they still releasing that ? IMHO Nintendo REALLY didn't use the "Channels" feature, it was an awesome idea . I really think its a better GUI as a home entertainment center over XBL or PSN, I thought Nintendo had future plans of what ironically the Xbox1 is aiming for given the "channels" idea and the Wii "mote" .

I can't get online to check these features because my Wii is modded
I am not sure how can I cancel the soft-mod because I do not want to brick my Wii. Also, by now I do not see a reason to NOT mod the Wii because digital content and Wii updates are no longer released.

My wii is softmodded, and I go online every night. Assuming you were already on the latest firmware before you softmodded (4.3) everything should be fine.

You can go online with a soft modded, even play what little games they have over the internet as well.

Oh... You were supposed to update your firmware before softmodding your wii. I know there's a way to prevent the wii from updating firmware using Priiloader. Ask around in the "hacks and mods" sub-forum for more info.

More importantly , why do I want to go online? Everyone says VC releases are dead, no more and I won't be surprised if servers are shut down.

Though I need to update the firmware to be able to play Red Steel 2 using Motion Plus.

This is a new issue here with the current gen. What if 10 years later some one wants to update his console's firmware or a certain game had downloadable content? With the PC they usually have a "latest installer" kind of thing released. With consoles, you only got the retail CD. You can't download "installers" and execute them on the PS/Xbox OS . It must be from the main company Sony or Microsoft servers.

Many games actually come with firmware upgrades on disc, and the newest firmware for the Ps3 is always available for download on Sony's site. All you have to do is put it on an SD card and load it onto the Ps3. I am certain that Microsoft and Nintendo have similar things.

I never looked for it, since I updated my Wii before modding, but I'm pretty sure there is a way to manually update via HBB, without having to worry about bricking your Wii.

And yes, you can use Priiloader to all updates. Depending on what guide you followed, that may be/should already be done. If not, you just hold reset for 5 seconds to load priiloader, go to system menu hacks, and enable anything that blocks updates.

Well, imo, if the company is no longer supporting the system, this is where you hack your system and install the firmware/dlc yourself.

Not quite dead yet it would seem.

For that price, depending on accessories, it'd almost be tempting as a 2nd/third/whatever system, considering a Motion Plus remote is $40 MSRP already.
