Yeah I wonder if the simplistic graphics are a reason it didn't get localized......? The push for everything in 3D was big back then (in the US).

And on the topic of the N64 not having RPGs, it doesn't really bother me that much. I find that consoles of any given gen "complement" each other - where one is weak another is strong. No console did everything perfectly.

Except for the SNES, of course.

SNES had the worst Sonic the Hedgehog games.

Another nice thing about importing for the N64 is that the "fix" required to disable "region locking" for NTSC-J games on an NTSC-U console is similar to removing the tabs on a SNES.

But for PAL games, I picked up a Passport Plus III. I wanted to play Rakuga Kids in English, so the PAL version was the way to go.

I've also imported Custom Robo V2, Super Robot Spirits, and SD Hiryu no Ken Densetsu, an updated version of the game Flying Dragon, though no longer own CRV2 and SRS.

The argument that the Nintendo 64 lacked fighting games is incorrect. Of the 296 NTSC-U N64 games, 19 are fighting games(though 2 were Blockbuster exclusives), about 6%. For comparison, the SNES NTSC-U library is about 7% fighting games(~50 out of ~725 games). As for whether these games were any good, there are a few that are of quality:

Super Smash Bros.
Killer Instinct Gold
Mortal Kombat Trilogy
Mortal Kombat 4
Flying Dragon
Mace: The Dark Ages
ClayFighter: Sculptor's Cut

I put Sculptor's Cut because it's not a bad game(and is better than 63 1/3, though I still believe ClayFighter Tournament Edition is the best of the series). Transformers: Beast Wars Transmetals I don't care for either. As for the rest, I'm not particularly partial to Bio F.R.E.A.K.S., and while I don't care for them, I find Fighter's Destiny and Fighter's Destiny 2 to be interesting if only for the focus on point-fighting as opposed to a traditional health bar. I think Xena: Warrior Princess is entertaining because Bruce Campbell's character is playable. Tom and Jerry: Fists of Furry would have rivaled Power Stone if it had been 4-player and had smaller health bars. Dark Rift, Dual Heroes, Deadly Arts, War Gods, and PowerPuff Girls: Chemical X-Traction are just bad in my opinion.

Flying Dragon is totally worth getting just for the "SD mode," which features RPG-like character growth systems and item collecting and such. Such a bizzarely addicting game. The "virtual mode" is just a crappy Virtua Fighter clone.

IIRC, there's a japan-only sequel that only includes the SD mode. I don't know how import-friendly it is (I kinda doubt it) but I hope someone does a fan translation someday.

It's not friendly at all. I own it. SD Hiryu no Ken Densetsu is the SD mode of Flying Dragon, but it added in more characters, more items, and a new gameplay mode. Unfortunately it is also very text heavy.

Figured as much, aww. I doubt the game is popular enough to get enough people working on a translation too.

Oh well.

Not if you're Stuart Ashen, who has his own unpopular opinion on Killer Instinct...

What's your thoughts on Tom & Jerry House Trap?
N64/NES/FC/SNES/SFC/GB (SGB)/GBC (Black)(SGB)/FDS/Satellaview/Genesis/Mega Drive/Master System & maybe N64DD/GBC/GBA.

I also have mixed feelings about the new Killer Instinct, but to deny KI:Gold is to deny greatness.

As for House Trap, I haven't tried it, though from gameplay I don't care for the split stage view. Is it actually 3D in a 2D view, or are there lanes a la Fatal Fury?
