Now, let's talk about your mother for a bit. How did you feel when you realized she was better than you at Tetris? (true story here btw)

About a year ago I traded in Pokemon Silver for $3. I didn't know much about Pokemon and the guy at the shop took advantage that. Asshole. I'm still kicking myself about it. Needless to say, I left a nasty review on Yelp and have blacklisted him among the group of gamers I hang out with.

I had forgotten about it until a couple hours ago when I was looking at buying a Pokemon game for my Game Boy. I needed to get this of my chest.

It's funny because it's true!
It was Dr. Mario for me. Still not sure how I feel about that. I think I can still prevail on 2-player, assuming were not on level 20.

In high school everyone had Tetris on their TI-86. I was the king. I spent countless hours playing and practicing. My high score was vastly superior to anyone's. Anyone who tried to compete with me failed miserably. I graduated with the all-time best Tetris score of Massabesic High School.

The next year I met a random girl in the college dorms. She had a TI-86 and I happened to notice that she had Tetris on it. I scoped out her high scores - her best was DOUBLE what mine was. Even her worst recorded score (I think the program kept a list of five) was still better than my best. And she wasn't a hardcore player at all, just used the game to keep herself busy on the bus or whatever.

It was a humbling experience to say the least.

That would bug the hell out of me... with Tetris anyhow. Dr. Mario I actually don't play all that much but I am (or once was) a bit of a Tetris ace. I would have to at least match the score. (of course, it's also hard to play a calculator when you have better options.

One thing that collecting stars in the "Game and Watch" series has taught me is that you can ALWAYS do better.

Odd that the TI-86 was so popular on your end... I mean that's what I used, but everyone else in my school had the TI-83, and maybe a couple TI-85's.

The school really pushed the TI-86 from what I recall. It's what the teachers used.

And I think people (erroneously) assumed it was a better calculator simply because of the "higher" number.

By that logic my TI-99/4A is an absolute beast!

The TI-86 had at least a couple features the others lacked. I just remember a matrix function that helped me get a better grade on one of my finals (I believe it got me an A in Trig., not from cheating, but because I could check my work quickly and accurately).

Plus, it had more memory than the others, at the time. Not that I really made use of that bonus though; I never had even one game on the thing .

All this calculator talk reminds me of another, non-gaming, related regret in my life. When I went to take my SATs I didn't take a calculator because I thought they wouldn't allow it... only to find out I was WRONG oh so WRONG.

When I took my ACT, all I had was a simple solar calculator, and that screwed me, so not having one at all...

Another gaming regret for me was getting into online gaming like I did. Spent a lot of time on that instead of many other single player games I could have played, and most of those people I played with I don't even talk to anymore. (They were people I knew IRL.)
