Hey man, you gave it a fair chance, and you just didn't like it. No shame in it. Hopefully you'll have a better experience with the next game you play.pierrot wrote:I also appreciate that no one has seemed to interpret my frustration with the game as an attack on his childhood/preferences/sensibilities. Thank you all for that.

Man. I just love this game to death. It's the only Zelda I have loved enough to play through twice in my life. This is the sort of Zelda I want to see. One where without voices you can still read the expressions of the characters. One with a meaty combat system and a seamless and beautiful world to explore with interesting things to visit. Not the general emotionless Link who's never surprised or upset.
The experience just felt so cohesive. I have just a few minor quibbles with the game. It's not a difficult game and even cut down that triforce quest is just tedious (although less so now). The updated visuals are beautiful 90% of the time but theres another 10% where it causes the visuals to look very 3D and clay-like. I'm not sure if I like that. It is just an HD upgrade though and the game is simply still the best 3D LoZ game regardless. Even now, it's still worth a full retail price and a play for those that haven't experienced it.
I don't remember the game being as long as it ended up being. 25 hours according to the Daily Log.

Dead Space 3 - PC
It was pretty much more of the same with Dead Space 3 I found. They opted much more for 'boo' scares than using the games atmosphere, which I think made it much weaker. After 20 or so 'dead' people coming to life in front of you, you just start shooting everything to see that is dead, 9/10 times they spring to life.
Also they left out the fact he had dementia, which was bizarre is it seemed to have gotten worse in the second game compared to the first, but in the third, it was just not there, which also took a lot about in terms of the games 'feeling'.
Splinter Cell: Blacklist - PC
It plays pretty similar to conviction, which I think is a good thing, however they have defiantly increased the stealth more and dialed back the third person shooter. I think overall I prefer it to Conviction.
I found completing the co-op missions a pain as finding someone who does not just run in shooting was harder than I thought it would be, once I found someone we just played through the whole co-op together.
The online is pretty broken as you can buy some overpowered weapons via DLC, which in single player make the mutli kill enemies die in one hit, don't see the point myself, however for some reason they brought it over to multiplayer and I lost interest pretty quickly.
Killzone 2 - PS3
I had tried to play the original quite a few times, but the choppy framerate and the 'floaty-ness' of the controls just turned me off, I eventually decided to skip over it and play Killzone 2. I am glad I did!
I heard a lot about it being a Halo knockoff, which is a series I don' really hold in high regard, while I can see why people would say that, I personally found Killzone 2 to be in a higher class than most Halo games (I was pretty fond of Halo 4).
Overall I found it enjoyable, the final boss was a pain in the ass. I have since gone back to Killzone on the PS2, which is a much longer and harder game.
Bioshock 2: Minerva's Den (DLC) - PC
This was free to people who had BS2 on steam before they dropped GFWL, so I had no reason to not play it through.
It was an enjoyable little piece, but nothing special.
Chaos on Deponia - PC
I had to restart this game twice because of bugs, once an item did not appear in my inventory after I picked it up, another time the main character was not visible.
I don't think I enjoyed this as much as the first, but just like it some of the puzzles are insane! I don't use walkthrough's but I was stuck and because I had bugged out twice I did it to make sure I had not again, nope, just a bizzare puzzle.
I like the game, the characters and the concept, the puzzles are just so out of left field sometimes that it is painful to play. Still!, looking forward to the final part of the Deponia trilogy.
Assassins Creed III - Tyranny of King Washington: Infamy (DLC) - PC
I really liked it! I liked the concept and the story, I like the new wolf power, which made it feel fresher than AC3 ever did. What I did not like is how short it was, in two short sittings I had finished the main missions, which retail for $10. I purchased the first and second together for cheap, so I will knock it back soon, hopefully it is a bit longer.
Battlefield 4 - PC
A big step up from Battlefield 3's campaign. Completed it on the hardest setting with gold medals in each level.
I really liked the score system, which is similar to the multiplayers score system. In games like Bulletstorm, the system felt tacked on, while in BF4, it feels like a extension of the mutliplayer, almost like a big interactive boot camp.
One thing that bothered me, in order to unlock 3 guns for use in mutliplayer, you have to finish the final mission 3 separate times, there was no need for that at all with the lame ass 'choose the ending, at the ending' crap we have seen a lot in games lately.
While the story was not amazing, it was again a big step up form BF3's. The voice acting, in particular Michael K. Williams, was outstanding.

I always thought it was called HUdson's Adventure Island. Anyway, it's a fun game where you play as a pudgy baby who sometimes skateboards. Pretty easy game, pretty fun game, pretty looking game. I could be wrong, but it seems like the same NES game, level for level and sprite for sprite.
Kirby looks excellent on the GBA. It presents a bit of a challenge (especially the second time around) but it remains a charming game with memorable bosses, characters, and music. I always like to think that Kirby is a rogue little Boo.

Re: Games Beaten 2013

One of the best games this generation, bar-none!
Absolutely fantastic Batman game that manages to beat the first one, even. There's just so much to do, explore, and find. And the way Batman moves around the city with the glide-cape and grappling hook combination is just so satisfying to use. So much comic-related goodies to find and unlock, too. It really pays a lot of fan-service to fans of the Batman comics, including lots of Batman's Rogue's gallery showing up to face off against. Plus you get to play as Catwoman and Robin, as well. And oh man, the graphics and general atmosphere the game protrayed was so Gotham City...so Batman. It was fantastic!

However, the one area where Arkham Asylum was better, was the storyline. Asylum felt more tight, focused, and story-driven; and it really felt like I had just read a great Batman graphic novel, when I was finished. Arkham City still had a great Batman tale to tell, but it wasn't as tight and focused as the story was in the Arkham Asylum, so it just didn't come off as impactful.

I felt that way as well initially when I first played it on the Gamecube and the second time through on the WiiU. I am surprised at how fast the game seemed to play, but in reality, I would plunk down 20+ hours even without 100%ing the game. That says something about that game that really makes it stand out as great, providing content that seems to go by so quickly, but in reality sits you in the seat for some time.

This may be where Batman peaked, Origins hasn't gotten as good of a response. I've actually been playing a little bit of Origins and so far it just feels like Arkham City recycled, but not quite as goodBurningDoom wrote:

I didn't play many games during October due to a lack of time for all of the horror movies I was watching, so it's been a while since my last post in this thread.
Super Mario Kart is an old favorite. I had a tire go flat while driving home from a party at 2am last Saturday, so my girlfriend had to crash at my place for the night. We generally prefer to stay at her place, but I set her up with Super Mario Kart while I took care of the car after we'd gotten some sleep. After taking care of a few errands, I played a bit while we waited for a friend to arrive to help get her home while I got the tire replaced. I still enjoy going back to this game occasionally, though I much prefer the Nintendo 64 follow up.
As for Super Scope 6, it's a collection of mini games that came as a pack-in for the SNES Super Scope. The games are broken into two subsets: Blastris and LaserBlazer.
Of the two, I find the games on LaserBlazer to be more interesting, since it follows a military theme where you have to blast missiles, shoot down airplanes, and fight off an invading alien horde. The alien horde game, Confront, is the most fun. Engage reminds me of a light-gun based approach to Top Gun while Intercept is a somewhat awkward horizontal representation of Missile Command. However, Mario makes an appearance in Intercept where he's chased by Lemmy Koopa on a rocket. You can shoot down Lemmy for more health or shoot down Mario to lose health.
Blastris...well, there's a couple of variations on Tetris-style games and then a whack-a-mole knock off called Mole Patrol. For some reason, Mole Patrol is where I struggled the most with the Super Scope; it just didn't want to fire when I wanted it to. Blastris A is a variation of Tetris where you can shoot pieces to destroy their parts, but you get limited ammunition, and the game is cripplingly slow. Blastris B has two variations, the first of which you have to destroy specific blocks by getting three of a row around it of the corresponding color. The other variation has blocks drop which can be shot to change colors, but there are certain blocks you cannot shoot, and these tend to build up. As a result, the game tends to overly rely on luck, at least in my opinion.
All of these games feature 30 levels, though you are given the option to skip ahead to the 10 or 20-level mark when starting them. Super Scope 6 isn't a bad collection; it shows some of the gameplay possibilities for the Super Scope. But it also reveals some of the limitations, and for the most part the experience is dull.
