SNES Games That Should Have Got A Sequel...
Re: SNES Games That Should Have Got A Sequel...
I'd say the same about Blaster Master. I always put Blaster Master above Metroid, but Super Metroid is still the king of that style for me (above the handheld CV's and such too). So I just always wonder how much of an upgrade Blaster Master could have gotten if it had a kickass sequel on the SNES too.
The Genesis game kind of sucked.

That was the only time I felt angry about forced grinding. Other than that, I really didn't have much trouble on grinding in that game. I was way more angry about having to pause the game to switch swords every 10-15 seconds because certain areas contained enemies only vulnerable to one sword and not the other and every other enemy was vulnerable to the other swords. What a load of shit. That's why I think if a sequel happened on the SNES, it would have solved that problem somewhat.ExedExes wrote:Yeah, but to not defeat any kind of major boss WITHOUT being a certain level? To be totally invincible to any sort of damage before that point? That's unheard of. From what I understand, the GBC port made it easier somehow?BoneSnapDeez wrote:I challenge you to find an 8-bit JRPG without grinding.![]()
The SMS version of Ys is particularly bad in the beginning.
Of course, I bring this up in a SNES thread. Um, yeah. Crystalis 2 for SNES!!!!!!!!!
I have no idea if the GBC port is easier.

Oh man, that would have been a good one too. I would have killed for an excellent Blaster Master sequel on the SNES.
I know there was a slight remix of the original one for the GBC but I don't like how you can't move diagonally in the top down view.
I never really cared for the original Metroid myself. It's not bad, but since Super Metroid was the first Metroid I ever played, it really spoiled me. So going back to the original Metroid via emulator was.....yeah. It's decent but I prefer the later 2-D ones by far, and Zero Mission is amazing.

The second game was sadly just crapped out by a western developer for the US market without much care put into it. Such a horrible disappointment especially since the Genesis could've really used a good Metroid-style adventure.Xeogred wrote:I'd say the same about Blaster Master. The Game Boy Color remix is okay, but not the true sequel we could have/should have gotten.
The original is an acquired taste for certain, and almost requires you to have played it before trying the others in order to fully appreciate it. I always felt this way about the original Zelda as well. The later games just improved the formula so much that it's hard to go back to the problems of the originals.MyNameIsVince wrote:I never really cared for the original Metroid myself. I still need to finish the original Metroid. Never did back in the day, I always got lost and quit in frustration. Or I'd input the JUSTIN BAILEY code and just screw around.
I have the GBA port - I'd like to finish that and then play Zero Mission right after.

Always loved Metroid myself, but it's one I guess I can see how it's not totally for everyone. It's something you had to appreciate back then and before the market became what it is today, no internet, etc, it was just one of those games you had to sink a ton of time and patience into (Norfair can get incredibly hard to navigate and figure out). Unless you had the guide or some maps, yeah.
I never had that patience for Metroid II though. I've tried replaying that one a lot over the years, but I never get too far before I get bored or too lost trying to figure out what to do.

I feel exactly the same, and for the same reason. One of my biggest pet-peeves of the game is constantly having to farm for health, because the enemies don't drop it as often as they do in other Metroid games and there's not health refill stations/statues like there are in other Metroid games. And the original starts you with only 30 health no matter how many life-tanks you've discovered, every time. It takes a bit of your time in that game, and it just gets annoying after a while.MyNameIsVince wrote:I never really cared for the original Metroid myself. You're not the only one, that game is kind of a chore. It's easy to get lost at first because of all the identical, monochrome tiles and re-use of entire rooms. Although in actuality it's probably the most linear game in the series because of the lava flow blocking your way.Xeogred wrote:I never had that patience for Metroid II though. Did you know that the original Metroid is already included in Zero Mission as an unlockable after you beat the game?BoneSnapDeez wrote:I still need to finish the original Metroid.
