Multi-Player Modes You Wish Were Alive
I recently reacquired the game Tron 2.0 for PC and saw that it was impossible to do the multi-player modes... modes that were a blast to play. You had disc wars where teams would compete, throwing, reflecting and dodging discs. What made it better was that the lobby allowed you to watch from above all the different arenas and teams fighting, which was a blast.
Recently though, I found that there was a patch that allowed for servers and reignited the multiplayer...but... no one plays it.
This got me thinking, what games did you love to play multi-player, but no one plays anymore, or the multi-player features are disabled and it is impossible to play?

Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory
There's still a community but in the US it's far too small to support competitive play anymore. In my opinion, no FPS has matched it in team-based play.
On a somewhat related note, I was bored scrolling through my steam library and fired up Ricochet and actually found another guy playing it, which was surprising, to say the least.

I never got a chance to play the online modes of Metal Gear Solid 3 or 4, and I heard they were pretty fun.

I came in here just to say this. I was able to get in on the tail end of it being well populated around 2008-2009. Brilliant game.

MGS3 was hard to get in on, since the servers were only up for like what, two years?
I think that as time goes on and we see more and more online-focused consoles like the 360 become dead platforms we're going to be seeing topics like this a lot more often.

Re: Multi-Player Modes You Wish Were Alive
I really hope they make an HD version of Alien vs Predator 2, most fun I ever had online. BTW does anyone play Battlefield 2 online anymore? been contemplating downloading it.

Re: Multi-Player Modes You Wish Were Alive
I have a few:
Tribes - There was so much open source and awesome maps to play. I'm talking about the original, though I know there's existing titles that people play today.
Phantasy Star Online - Even the servers that exist now don't do it justice, and it's hard (and rightfully so) to get into the game now when the appeal of the game has come and gone with the servers' shutdowns.
Wolfenstein - This was the game that I bought a subscription to Xbox Live for. The beach landing map was one of the coolest objective modes that I had ever seen. Some teamwork beyond just kill each other was a really cool novel idea to me at the time. I'm sure other games like Battlefield 1942 did it but this was my first experience with this style of play.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 - Similar to Wolfenstein, I think this game needs a tip of the cap. I'm broadening out the definition of alive to more lively--I think a lot of online games, even if they have the capacity today to enter servers, are dead and not used. I know the PS2 version is still online and accessible, but getting a full game is impossible. When games are centered on a multiplayer approach, it's hard to fully enjoy them when people move on to the next thing.

Everyone talks about Wolfenstein, but I never knew it to be an interesting Multi-player. What about it made it so good?
With Star Wars Battlefront 2, they have a PC version that goes on sale all the time... I wonder if there is still activity on it?
I would love for the forums to try and maybe rustle up some activity on these games for old times sake...hitting up novel games like rocochet, Tron 2.0, Star WarsBattlefront 2 for a night and have a nice monthly game night to breathe some life into them.

I played Enemy Territory back in '05-'06 and loved it. Out of all the multiplayer games I've played, this one gave me some of my best "ass kicking stories".

Wow, I didn't think anyone was still playing Ricochet.

That sounds like a great idea. There might be enough PC Gamers here to do that.

The spies vs. mercs mode in Splinter Cell....I think 2......was original and fun. It wasn't nearly as much fun to be the mercs but otherwise it was great. I was in college at the time and didn't have the attention span to get good at it but it was a great mode.
Also, anything that was lost after Halo 2.
