There are lots of manly figures and monsters and robots, but there's no doubt "pretty girl" figures are the strongest sellers.

With newer anime - the kind most figures are coming from - female characters tend to outnumber male characters, and they're usually more eye-catching and interesting than the males too. And most of these shows are targeted at guys to begin with. Even if every character got a figure, teenagers girls would be the most common by far

Girl figures sell well to both males and females. There's definitely some 3D-2D fan love going on though. Did you hear about the Asahina Mikuru bunny outfit figure? It has squishable breasts, and even more amazingly, the box says they might come off if you squish them too hard.

As for why the girls tend to be either petite or really busty - I guess either extreme is more attractive to that fanbase than a "normal" looking woman. Unless it's Servant Saber. Most guys, otaku or not, have a type. ZenErik loves red-haired girls and I like girls with swords. Those types are pretty common for this audience.

It all comes down to the anime and merch industries zeroing in on the reliable, loyal, male fanbase by repeating things that have sold well in the past.

Also, to add to the, "Why are there more teenage girl figures," discussion, I think a lot of it has to do with the actual content of popular anime. There is a LOT of fanservice series out there and thus there are more female figures. Also, a lot of anime tend to have female characters that stand out more than men, meaning they have more character or personality. That isn't saying all of them are like this, as the majority of A+ series have a well rounded cast.

Me, I am not a figure owner. I have some Star Wars bobbleheads, but that is the limit of my content. That reminds me... I have to go through my mother's attic and dig up my crazy huge teenage mutant ninja turtle collection I had when I was a kid... maybe for once successfully put together the TechnoDrome.

About that Captain America toy. They're selling it at Wal-Mart for $20, and it comes with a throwable shield. Surprising to find something current at a thrift shop, even if it was missing a piece. There's a Hulk and Iron Man too. Haven't seen a Thor.

ZenErik, what do you think of character mousepads? I'm not that interested, since the one I have is pretty comfortable. Is the tracking good? Texture acceptable for gaming?

I ordered a Black Hanekawa Alter figure from Amazon seller tomomiyabi over a month ago, but Miyabi never added any tracking information or confirmed shipment. Maybe she just forgot, but for over a month, that's some amazing negligence. Avoid her, even if she has the last reasonable price on the Internet. Which she did. A month later and the prices have rose even more, I'd have to be stupid to buy it right now.

I've got my money back, but how will I get my figure now? There's a chance it will still arrive in the mail, but I doubt she sent it at all. There's already been a reprint, and I seriously doubt Alter's going to do another one.

Guess I'll have to go without, I'm not paying a scalper $187 for a $90 figure even if it is Black Hanekawa. That's what always happens with high quality sculpts of popular characters >_>

Also, the newly announced Snow Miku figma is way too cute.

I got a figma Megurine Luka! It's pretty and poseable but I couldn't get the stand to fit. Not as large as expected; it's the size of a small man's hand.

Here she is in her rightful place on my guitar amp.

I just received my Makise Kurisu figma, and my little sister tore her arms off. Luckily I was able to replace them, but...this is really moe in a really weird way.

Is anyone else...affected? :?
