anyone know of a guide to put a new screen in a neo geo pocket color?
the one in the NGPC isn't really backlit. I've heard conflicting things due to their marketing at the time. Some say it is backlit some say it isn't. Regardless, that shit is hard to see. I would love to put a DS or new PDA screen in it, but lack the technical know how to do it myself. I need to follow instructions.
anyone know of any? If it is even possible?

i would like to know this too as i freaking hate not having a backlight, i mean, even the GAMEGEAR had one (even if it ate up batterys)
Older. Not wiser.

you could try a neo geo pocket color wormlight if you don't have one already. I just ordered one and it should be here in a week or so. Though- i would much rather have the backlight. I remember using wormlights with gameboys when i was a kid and really not liking them. It would be fine if the screens weren't polished up to a nice glare.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:i would like to know this too as i freaking hate not having a backlight, i mean, even the GAMEGEAR had one (even if it ate up batterys)
I've been hunting around for a while and it seems like the wormlight is the only option. Ugh. It is kinda odd that SNK low balled the quality on the pocket. Like you said the gamegear had one. And i can't believe they went with double a batteries. This handheld is only 2 years older than the GBA which was rechargeable. You would think that a company like SNK which went so over the top on the quality of the neo geo would do the same for its handheld.

Head over to neogeo.com I recall a member there (xianxi?) who did a guide for a light mod (frontlit) and can also do them for cash. I believe a guy in canada was doing them as well. Always wanted to do one of my NGPC consoles but never did.

http://www.neogeo.com/ is in german- and doesn't really look like a video game forum/site. Is the address wrong?otaku wrote:Head over to neogeo.com I recall a member there (xianxi?) who did a guide for a light mod (frontlit) and can also do them for cash. 'front light' was the phrase i was missing from google searches- thanks otaku
Apparently http://mash-mods.com/ sells kits- you can send in your own system to be modded, or you can buy ones that are already modded.
The result is alright. Not perfect by any means and certainly not a backlight, but perhaps it is the best out there.

There is a mod that you can do, but you'll need to kill a GBA SP1 I had a pdf for it and I can look for it if you are interested.

i'd appreciate it. I don't mind gutting a GBA SP for it- you can get those pretty cheap these days.Pullmyfinger wrote:There is a mod that you can do, but you'll need to kill a GBA SP1 I had a pdf for it and I can look for it if you are interested.

Yep, Xian Xi at "www.neo-geo.com" is the guy you're looking for. He's the one that made the DIY guide Pullmyfinger posted. From what I recall he'll perform the mod for you for about $45 (can't remember if that was with a supplied SP to sacrifice).
I create one-of-a-kind 'Backlit NES' systems. I also create video game props and costumes. Send me a PM, check out my website (www.platinumfungi.com), or find me on social media.
