Not under that name but there are several laws adressing the issue and a national organization (Spanish Agency of Data Protection) who watches that section of the law.

The European Union has similar laws and a similar organization as far as I'm aware. They are also actively engaged in legislation concerned other personal privacy issues like the right to be forgotten, which I'm told is very controversial in the US.

I don't believe I'm aware of what the "right to be forgotten" is. Or at least, I've never heard that term used before.

Does anyone else find it amusing when someone complains on THE INTERNET about their right to privacy?

Yes, and they're also likely using either a Microsoft or Apple operating system.

But I do think this brings up some interesting points about national consumer laws in other regions.

Being actively monitored without any semblance of privace while playing is simply not admissible. It's not okey to wiretap my phone conversations, it's not okey to record what websites I visit and it's not okey for the Xbone to monitor me.
So the part where they explicitly say that MS is not making a point to listen in on anything doesn't matter at all?
Microsoft says it may monitor communications “to the extent permitted by law, but we cannot monitor the entire Service and make no attempt to do so.”
In fact, if you read the actual document, quite a lot of it makes clear that the data is stored locally (and can be cleared), is cleared once you're done playing, requires your permission, or at least is anonymous. IE, they can record you playing online, but just the in-game data, nothing that links to you.
Third. In repeated claims Microsoft has admitted and even boasted about his monitoring being a marketing tool, that they would save our data and store every single possible part of our information so they can profit from it without any transparency whatsoever.
They've spoken about what the technology is capable of doing. Not necessarily what it's actually being used for.
I mean, they dare to say this:
Microsoft wrote:users they “should not expect any level of privacy concerning your use of the live communication features such as voice chat, video and communications in live-hosted gameplay sessions offered through the Services.”
Is the part where it says "in live-hosted gameplay sessions" invisible to you? Because I sure wouldn't expect communications on a public server to be, you know, private.
Excuse me, but Microsoft themselves are saying that it's a spying device that will monitor your conversations for datamining purporses. There's no conspirancy here, it's out in the open.
Actually, no, they aren't saying that.

The entire block related to it is this:
Kinect’s microphones help enable chat and audio. Chat includes online voice talk between players during gameplay or talking to others using services such as Skype. You should not expect any level of privacy concerning your use of the live communication features such as voice chat, video and communications in live-hosted gameplay sessions offered through the Services. We may monitor these communications to the extent permitted by law, but we cannot monitor the entire Service and make no attempt to do so. You understand that others can record and use these communications. Communications in live-hosted gameplay sessions may also be broadcast to others. Please note that Xbox does not listen in on Skype calls.

I find it interesting tbh. Its not so long ago that the internet was perceived as a place to be anonymous and yet here everybody it practically scoffing at the idea.

To the original point - I have no problem with the kinect collecting anonymous data in order to make improvements. Nor do I have a problem with the conversations within an online game being considered public. I have no idea what they would do with recordings of these conversations anyway

I assume they would determine all the possible ways to verbally slander someone.

Plus if you wanted to start this argument.. Anything with a GPS or online network would cause us to lose our privacy anyways..

So I'm assuming you don't own a GPS device?
