I've finally got the physical cartridge though I've played through it in emulation a few times so I suspect I'll be spending quite a while with it. I always liked how it kind of combines elements from Blazing Lazers/GunHed with Aleste into one big Compile shooter extravaganza.
The two different kinds of extra lives thing (instant respawn and checkpoint) was always kind of weird to me though. Was there a big argument in the office about this and they just couldn't make up their minds so they went with both?
I also picked up a Japanese copy of R-Type III, another game I only really experienced via emulation before. It's a real shame more developers didn't put more interest in high-quality shmups for the SNES. Both of these games prove that with good programming the low processor speed can be overcome.

For me, it has to be Megaman X. At one point, I kept track of the number of times I had cleared the game, but once it went over 100, I lost count. After the first few clears, my average time to completion was about an 60-90 minutes, so I have easily spent over 100 hours with this game.

That's so weird, since both of them require some pretty slick jump timing in order to beat successfully! In comparison, DKC (any of the three) are a walk in the part compared to that awful jump in SGaG.
SGaG isn't a normal platformer in that it's more of an endurance test. There's unlimited continues so there's really no excuse not to be able to keep at it and grind away til you get to the next check point.
Yeah, until you get to the second to last level the SECOND time you play through the game, and you HAVE to beat the 2 bosses with the goddess bracelet and of course, if you lose your armor, you are FUCKED beyond belief and you cannot hit the bosses with the goddess bracelet unless you get really close to them and your chances of beating the bosses is almost zero percent if that occurs. I have tried like hell to beat the end of that level and I get killed. Every. Time. I've done everything from screaming at my television to throwing my phone to slamming my guitar stand onto my bed whenever that happens. It's the hardest part in the game without question. I can get through the rest of the game pretty much no problem (even level 4 which still makes me swear like AVGN at times), but just that one part. THAT ONE PART. Ugh.

In addition to all that, there's a freaking TIMER.
I love Super Ghouls n Ghosts but the end of level 8 (the 2nd time around) is beyond cheap. It's such a bummer. The goddess bracelet might be my least favorite weapon in any game ever.

True. I hate that Goddess Bracelet, especially when I'm down to my underwear, when it's at its LEAST EFFECTIVE. Oh yeah and the timer too......#@$@^&*.....tried to replay the game earlier tonight for Halloween but I lost the motivation to keep playing around stage 5 so.....yeah that ended earlier than I thought. Of course part of it is because I'm running on 4 hours of sleep so....yeah. Maybe tomorrow when I have a full night's sleep.

The cartridge is red. Who doesn't love non-standard cartridge colors? That's about the only thing I like about it.
I guess the music is good too. Maybe not better than the PC, but different.
I can't stand to play it for for very long though it always gives me a headache.
I love the music in Super Nintendo Doom. Seriously underrated soundtrack.
Yes it's slow, yes it has messy pixels and it's sometimes difficult to control but.....I like it. Irrational as it may be, but I do.
I will agree that playing it for a long time does get tiring after a while. It sucks that SNES Doom didn't have a save feature of any kind. Like Blaster Master and Super Mario Bros 3 (NES version), it could have benefited from some sort of save feature. Oh well.
I recently busted out my Super Scope(ok, ok, I took it off the wall where I keep it up) and played a little Super Scope 6 and Yoshi's Safari. Not a bad way to wind down the weekend.
I've also recently realized that I've beaten the arcade mode(or its equivalent) for nearly every NTSC-U fighting game on the console. I only have a few remaining(and most of these aren't traditional fighters):
Best of the Best: Championship Karate
Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story
King of the Monsters
King of the Monsters 2
Mortal Kombat 2
Mortal Kombat 3
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
I realized this recently and now feel very odd that I've only beaten the first MK on SNES. I guess it's time to brush up on my classic Scorpion and Ermac. I suck at the KotM games, and I find BotB really odd. Dragon...well, I guess I could give it another shot.

I would agree.

Does any one use WiiU - Wii to play their SNES games off VC?
Or are you all hardcore with the original console and cartridge? I usually like things as they were intended to, but the "save anywhere" and speeding options really helped specially in games where you need to backtrack.

I own an SNES... and play all my SNES games on my Wii. Component video out and the option to switch between 240p and 480p is sweet, fan translations are awesome, etc.
I don't use the VC titles though, I use an emulator.
