Well then, the PS4 won't be your new $400 CD player. Better go buy a boutique audiophile $5000 CD player instead.

It's not like it'll play MP3s, or FLAC, or AAC, or anything other than Sony's streaming music service either.

Personally, I tend to buy CDs, rip them, and put the disc away...but still, if I actually want to play a CD, I tend to use my PS3.

It seems less like a "nobody ever wants to do this anyway" thing, and a lot more like a "steer consumers towards Sony services" thing.

Here is another instance of where this could be a HUGE problem.

PS4 version of Project DIVA. Currently you need to transfer MP3s of songs to the PS3 for Edit Play (user created) stages in Project DIVA F. Most of these songs definitely would not be available on Sony's Music Unlimited. With the PS4's current limitations SEGA could be forced to eliminate one of the most important parts of the game: fan created content.

Yeah. I mean, a lot of it is stuff they could add in later. It certainly doesn't lack the computing power for it. I just find it odd given how common most of that stuff is now for consumer electronics.

The good news is , everything "bad" news about the PS4 is software related. Sony can unlock any of these demands due to popular requests at any time. There is some weird stuff going on though, like no Audio CD playback and no MP3? a computer from '96 can do this, why would they ban it on purpose? They must be managed by idiots if they think that people that are not able to play audio CDs on the PS4 will decide to pay subscription to Sony Music.

@Isiola

The 12GB model is useless when downloadable content is 1-5GB each , not to mention game installs. I really do not see how $150 is the price difference between 7 years in difference technology. I really think ps3 prices should drop down very low very soon. $250 was the LAUNCH price of the Wii...

I already use iTunes Match which allows me 25,000 or so songs. Stream or download any time, anywhere, Matches any songs that are on iTunes w/ no extra fee and uploads any songs not available from the iTunes store. Can stream on any PC or Mac w/ iTunes, on my iPhone, and on my iPad. $25 a year. Sure the service could probably be nicer if it weren't locked to Apple software/hardware. And maybe the price could be lower. But I enjoy it.

Paying $5-10 a month for Music Unlimited seems like an awful deal in comparison despite the ability to use it on a wider variety of devices (if you pay the $10 per month version). That is either $60 or $120 a year.

If their new standard of not supporting MP3s kills one of my favorite franchises from the PS3/PSP/Vita I will not be too happy. Would I boycott the PS4? Probably not. But Project DIVA F is probably my 2nd favorite game/series from this past generation.

Sony has a history of keeping their previous systems on the market for a long time after a new one launches, and without gigantic price drops.

The point of the 12GB model, just like the 4GB 360 model, isn't to be the best purchasing decision out there. It's to have that "from $199" out there for marketing. Basically, Sony doesn't need to slash prices to compete with, say, the Wii U - they already have a PS3 model coming in at $100 less.

To be fair, all you need for the 12GB PS3 is the $10 drive sled and a spare laptop HDD. So for some, it might be a good, cheap entry...otherwise, it's getting to holiday bundle time :lol:

@ZenErik

How much less than $25 per year do you want to pay? I would imagine not many people are using that service any way...
Unless people got 500GB of music or something like that. I know some people do, but I would imagine most are no where there.

Somebody here on the forum warned me about the 12GB models, I think it won't allow you to install games on an external HDD or something like that. Otherwise I got a spare HDD...

I thought Sony dropped ps2 prices down to $100 at ps3 launch, am I wrong? Plus the PS3 compared to PS4 is OLDER than PS2 compared to PS3, so it should be even cheaper right?

The omission of DLNA is the worst part easily.. Although I usually watch stuff and play music from my PC.. I could understand people being angry about it..
