I hate when telecoms pull that kind of bs.

Re: How important is really high speed internet to you?
I actually pay for a proxy server that routes all of my bit torrent traffic through it. That way all my ISP sees is a ton of traffic, but can't tell what it is.
The companies website is BTGuard.com I've been doing this for a couple of years now with no problem.
Before the debate gets started, I understand that pirating is bad and that I shouldn't do it. That's not going to change the fact that I like downloading.
I am going to talk to suddenlink (the cable provider in my area) to see if they would ever put a line up that way. I assume they cover part of the road I'm looking at, just not as far up as I will be.
Has anyone ever convinced an ISP to run lines for them where they previously had no service?

My cousins parents actually were able to get Suddenlink to run lines out to their house for a small fee. They were about 2 miles from the cutoff point though. Are you extremely far from where the cutoff for Suddenlink is? Also, the more people who want it, the more likely they are to do it for freeFrag Mortuus wrote: Has anyone ever convinced an ISP to run lines for them where they previously had no service?
I am buying all Saturn games, PM me with your offerings and I will let you know if I need the game or not! (Everything must be CIB)
Currently trying to knock off all the sports games, would like to get them <$5 each! Of course if you would like to donate them I will gladly pay the shipping!

They are more inclined to do it if you are getting a business account. The ROI on business customers is better than residential since they usually lock you in a multiyear agreement.

I'm not sure how far the cutoff is, I don't think its more than a few miles. Maybe 5 max.TheSegaSaturnGuy wrote:They were about 2 miles from the cutoff point though. Are you extremely far from where the cutoff for Suddenlink is?
What kind of price difference am I looking at for a business line compared to a residential? Also, would I need to have an actual business? If so, I have one. Depends on the ISP but most do not require an actual business. I know in most markets for Comcast and Charter the base business account is $70 a month with the modem and runs 16x3. It supposedly has a max four hour turn around on down times aswell. But the resi that runs at the same speed is $60ish after whatever promo ends.Frag Mortuus wrote:What kind of price difference am I looking at for a business line compared to a residential? I have to admit that giving up high speed Internet would be a real challenge for me. It would so radically alter my current way of living that I would have to be willing to start over and reprioritize how I am living. I could see that as a positive thing of simplifying and focusing more on in person relationships and activities, or I could see it as crippling my ability to conduct modern business and entertainment.

Going from my 25mb/s down to 10 is already fustrating enough. I couldn't imagine having to use sattelite internet like my parents are right now.

It's important to me, but clearly a non-essential. My job certainly doesn't depend on it, at least not at home. We have Comcast's 50↓10↑ service which is usually ample. I've noticed the new SuperHD (1080p) streams from Netflix eat up significantly more bandwidth, but we've rarely had a hitch, even with multiple HD streams in separate rooms. So yeah, it's essential now.

Long as my videos don't stop and skip while I'm watching them, that's fast enough. I really don't do a lot of online gaming, anyways.
