PC Games Ported to SNES

When I was just a kid during the great Sega Genesis vs SNES console war I landed on the side of Sega. I fell for their brilliant marketing campaign that made the Genesis just look so damn cool. I don't regret my decision... I think Sega was and is still a great game company (The Dreamcast will always hold a special place in my heart).

But... there is one reason I wish I had a SNES instead of a Genesis and that's because it had more PC ports (I think, prove me wrong if you can).

My parents bought a PC in the late 80s and it was the only PC we had until 1998 and it was a Tandy 3000... it was obsolete the day we got it. Couldn't find anything for it. I always would try to get games running on it even though there was no way it was going to happen. Spesifically Wolfenstien, Doom and Sim City.

These games sparked my imagination and gave me a glimps of what laid beyond console gaming in the PC world.

It's because SNES had these games that I kinda wish I had an SNES instead of a Genesis.

Are there any other great PC ports for SNES that I'm missing?

There were PC ports for the SNES, but I'm thinking there were way more Amiga ports too. Games like Soldiers of Fortune (Chaos Engine), Gods, Shadow of the Beast, First Samurai, Legend, and many more.

There were others that were Amiga (or Amiga + DOS) first, like Another World/Out of This World, Syndicate and Lemmings.

Wing Commander, Ultima VI-VII (though VII was not really the same), Eye of the Beholder, Civilization, Populous, Might & Magic II & III, other Sim- games (Simcity 2000 and Simearth), probably more that were at least on both platforms.

Wolfenstein 3D and Doom were ported to the SNES. Wolf 3D was heavily censored, but it does support use of the snes mouse! so...yay?

Prince of Persia and Out of this World were ported to the SNES. Out of this World on the snes is pretty impressive considering IIRC it originally was to use the FX-chip which was scrapped as being too costly for the release.

Wizardry V was released in Japan. Populous II, Syvalion, and Theme Park were PAL only.

Now, not all of these were exclusive to the SNES; some came out on the Genesis as well. And some came out simultaneously on the SNES and PCs, like Blackthorne. I also tried to denote games that came out in the PAL and NTSC-J region, but I might have missed some.

Wizardry V was released in Japan.

..............and the US.

Also, it's Ultima VI and VII that are on the SNES.

Wizardry I-II-III: The Story of Llylgamyn and Wizardry VI are Japan-only. Japan also had Wizardry Gaiden IV: Throb of the Demon's Heart, but that's an original game not a PC port. The also got Ultima: The Savage Empire on Super Famicom (and the X68, for that matter) - in the US it was exclusive to the PC.

Does anyone know anything about Wizardry I-II-III? I can find screenshots but no artwork. It apparently wasn't released until 1999!

It's worth noting that there are two different versions of Might and Magic II for SNES/Super Famicom - a PAL one and a Japanese one. The Japanese one is titled Might and Magic: Book II. Neither version was released in the US.

I don't think I could add any games that haven't already been mentioned but I would say that I thought that SimCity and Eye of the Beholder made the transition to the SNES particularly well.

I had no idea that so many Ultima games came out on the system though...

Funny thing is, I LIKE a lot of these games that are on Ack's big list. Guess it's time to show some love to the Amiga/PC?
