What if the Ouya is really the dreamcast 2 in disguise?
Edit: I had to go back and make this text blue as some folks seem to be taking the above statement seriously.

Actually, I think Sega could succeed in the mobile market. Nintendo might be the 800 lb gorilla, and look how even Sony has struggled, but with smartphone tech what it is these days, it would be pretty simple. Pair a slow to moderate CPU with one of the newer mobile graphics chipsets and make sure to put heavy emphasis on power-savings in the design. Then slap in a big battery. I know Nvidia has the Shield, but that's a little pricey. There's got to be a way to whittle down costs without custom chips.

It would be hard to envision Sega trying to break into the market again, they don't have a lot of money or resources anymore.
Sega was the fearless mainstream developer. They'd have ton of studios dedicated to making different ips across all genres. They'd make a cool and stylish game, ditch the ip and go on to make other things. Not the best business model, but certainly respectable from a fans point of view. In a world where everyone complains that there are too many sequels and too many safe games being made, Sega was the polar opposite (and perhaps the prime example of why companies do not follow their mold).
With that being said, Sega still does publish a lot of different games from other companies. Maybe if they were to make their own console they'd likely still prioritize exclusives.
I think Sega would likely deliver on the games if they had the money to make a reasonable push. Who knows how they'd do on a commercial level, but I think gamers would be treated to a lot of nice titles if Sega ever did come back, especially if they started to add studios under their umbrella.

I think since Sega acquired Atlus they should now buy OUYA and drop all of this free to try crap and put their titles on it. They could still let smaller studios develop their own games but have a standard. Trust me, I have seen some pathetic excuses for games on the OUYA. They could even rename it Dreamcast 3!
I am buying all Saturn games, PM me with your offerings and I will let you know if I need the game or not! (Everything must be CIB)
Currently trying to knock off all the sports games, would like to get them <$5 each! Of course if you would like to donate them I will gladly pay the shipping!

Why would they purchase the Ouya though? They could easily make their own console better than it.

This is part of what I'm getting at. I love having classic Dreamcast games on Steam. A new Alien Front would be pretty kick ass.fastbilly1 wrote:How about Sega just release more upgraded Dreamcast games on other platforms - specifically Steam. A new Alien Front Online or Outrigger would just be perfect. Hell, I would be happy if they just gave us Phantasy Star Online 2 in English (I know I can hack it into English but an official release would be superior).
I think I'd shoot myself.samsonlonghair wrote:What if the Ouya is really the dreamcast 2 in disguise?

This is pretty much my reply. The Ouya isn't anything special or unique so I don't really see any point in Sega acquiring Ouya.Violent By Design wrote:Why would they purchase the Ouya though? They could easily make their own console better than it.

Because it is already established and in homes. A firmware update would be all it would need. And it would be a cheaper price point for consumers because if they built their own console from the bottom up the system would have to rival the price of the WiiUViolent By Design wrote:Why would they purchase the Ouya though? Not really, a pretty insignificant amount of the market has an Ouya. Most people do not know what an Ouya is. In fact, most gamers probably do not know what an Ouya is. There is no brand value or high install base, there would be no reason for Sega to buy it. They could merely make something as good if not better than the Ouya considering they'd have a better budget than a Kickstarting based one.TheSegaSaturnGuy wrote:

I always wanted a Dreamcast 2........I think Sega should try something in the mobile market. Not a dedicated console but a Android device perhaps with some custom graphics chips in it or something of the sort.
Curtsy when you walk by that Dreamcast
