The PS3 is seven years old? Craziness.

Uh, mind telling us what this bad last-minute info is? I went through the FAQ and didn't see anything I didn't already know...(except for not being able to change your user name)ZenErik wrote:http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/10/ ... h-america/
Think the PS4 is some sort of holy grail compared to the Xbox One? Yea, not really. Sony is throwing some last minute info our way that certainly won't win over some folks.

Re: The PS4 thread
I'm pretty pissed about the features that have been cut from the PS4
No DLNA support. So no streaming media from my PC.
No MP3 playback. So, not putting music on the HDD or a thumbstick for playback.
No Audio CD support. That's just dumb.
No External HDD support.
There is quite a bit more that they have omitted. The problem I have is that Sony could have released an ultimate all in one system by adding awesome multimedia capabilities and software emulated BC. That way I could ditch all the boxes in my TV stand and just have a PS4. But, oh well.
Maybe the XBOX One will be what I wanted in multimedia support. I mean, I'm still getting a PS4, I'm just really disappointed.

There is no way that you could have known all of the stuff I just mentioned. No one knew about it until that FAQ released.
Re: The PS4 thread
Some of the bad:
no media servers
no mp3 playback
You need to subscribe to Sony's Music Unlimited for music on your PS4. So basically, no custom soundtracks unless you pay Sony another $5-10 a month depending on the plan you get. You may or may not be limited to their poor library of music. Not sure if you are able to upload a certain amount of MP3/AAC songs you already have to their servers.
Some needing clarification:
no exHDD for games, fine. But will exHDD work for MP4, backup, etc?
no mention of supported video codecs. Are MP4, AVI, etc supported at all?
Previously known:
no exHDD for game data
no changing names
no CD playback (people still own CDs?)
Basically, the new 'meh' info is for those of us that would like to use our PS4 to playback video or are interested in custom soundtracks and such. PS3 is able to support media servers, external HDDs w/ media, and MP4/AVI/MP3/whatever playback without issue.
For comparison, I don't think we have any clarification on whether the Xbox One will support these sorts of features either. The Xbox One DOES support exHDD for game data, but it has to since the internal HDD is not upgradeable. Will it support media servers, MP4, MP3, etc? Still gotta wait and see.

The 12GB flash-storage-only version is $200, but the 250 and 500GB versions tend to have game bundles these days that make their ~$250-300 price points effectively less, assuming it's something you'd have wanted to get anyway. For example, the GTAV 500GB bundle is $269 on Amazon.RCBH928 wrote: I want a sub-$250 ... it is a 7 year old console do not forget and soon to be phased out. I just went to retail stores here, it was priced around $400, should be coming down soon.
Obviously, there's still plenty of room for it to drop in price more, but, I wouldn't really expect clearance prices anytime soon.

I was referring to things that would impact the ability to play games; not multimedia programs. I should have clarified.Frag Mortuus wrote:Opa Opa wrote: Uh, mind telling us what this bad last-minute info is? Re: The PS4 thread
Yeah the lack of the media servers is a huge drawback for me. I enjoyed using my PS3 as an all purpose multimedia device, putting music, movies and other videos on my PC and watching through my system.
Is it a deal breaker, not necessarily, but it is definitely a blow.

Re: The PS4 thread
It still seems like an odd omission to me considering how common DLNA is in general.
Re: The PS4 thread
Regarding games the only thing that wasn't confirmed, which I forgot to mention, is mandatory installs. This doesn't bother me as I always install every game that allows it anyway. Plus I already planned on upgrading the PS4 HDD to 1-2TB. Not sure if 2TB 9.5mm laptop drives are available yet. Haven't checked in a while.Opa Opa wrote:I was referring to things that would impact the ability to play games; not multimedia programs.
