RE4HD: Why the Hate?

I bought RE4HD on the recent PSN sale. Upon firing it up, I don't see what the hate is all about. So many people complained that it isn't a true HD port. All Capcom did was change the native resolution without actually updating any of the textures. IMO, this game just showcases what Capcom was able to do with the hardware that was being used at the time. If they in fact, did just upscale the existing textures, then this game was more impressive than I remember. I think the game looks crystal clear. Yes, it would have been nice to see a few of the muddy textures replaced with new higher res ones. But, the fact that they don't look absolutely terrible these days is pretty impressive.

Huh, that's good to know then. I was kind of kicking myself for not buying it when it was on sale last week, but now that I know I can just play my old copy through PCSX2 and do the same thing Capcom did, I don't feel bad for missing it.

I think this looks better than running it on PCSX2, but not by much. I'm happy with my purchase.

I have nothing against the HD remake, but given how much of a Gamecube nut I am, I'll always prefer playing the original.

I picked up during the sale as well. I bought on release for the Gamecube and later the PS2,. It still looks good and I like not having to pull old systems out of the closet. For less than 6 bucks it's quite the deal.

The PC version is where it's at. You can get high res texture packs for it. I run it at 1920x1200 and it looks fabulous.

I heard, though, that the version they upscaled was the PS2 version, which technically was inferior to the Gamecube version graphically. If true, that's pretty lame.

Is that actually true? Sounds like something that might not be and I really should have googled before posting, but I'm too tired. Oh well.

I'm pretty sure that's true.

But imo extra content > slightly better textures.

Capcom are consistently great with the HD upgrades. I played RE4-HD earlier this year myself and yeah, didn't get why it was knocked on at all. It'll definitely be the version I go back to.
