65 million Steam accounts

Steam has apparently annouced there are 65 million accounts on its service. As for how many are active accounts, and what constitutes an active account, I have no idea. But the number is impressive nonetheless.

yeah I saw that - I wish I had $ dog-eared for the Hallween sale. I ended up grabbing Left 4 Dead 1, 2, Typing of the Dead Overkill and Limbo for just under $20. But that was $20 out of my budget for some PC parts I need to pick up. :\

I could have blown an easy $100+ on this sale.

Yeah, that tends to be the way these things go, though I picked up so much on the Summer Sale that I've not even gotten to try it all yet. I might pick up the Painkiller collection and let that be it, unless a few friends point out multiplayer games we can check out together.

In that case they can make up any number they want. Not saying they did, but usually privately held companies exaggerate numbers to an absurd amount.

Well I have four steam accounts myself, and I know more than a couple people that have eight.

As for steamsales, what have I told you multiple times noise!

Considering how many folks and organizations hold multiple accounts, the age of the service, and how it is effectively ubiquitious with modern PC gaming, I'd say there's probably a decent chance this is accurate. It doesn't mean they aren't including accounts that haven't been used since 2004.

It's why I was wondering about how many accounts were actually active.
