I just checked (this post is on november 13) the ign release dates (yah, i know, but f**u all, ive been going on that site since the ps1 days),
i was shocked that with the holidays coming there is only 5, yes FIVE releases coming out for the psp from now untill the holidays (although we did just get a few nice released),
i would really think that companies would push to cash in on the drought of psp releases.
this was a surprise especially since they just released psp model 3 (which the screen sucks by the way, see online for details)
anybody heard of a new psp2 or xbox portable coming out soon? perhaps next holidays?
on a smaller note, there is only 20 ps2 games coming out, most crap but almost seems like ps2 will outlast the psp. ign said their NBA 2k9 (i love that game) is most likely their last ever on the ps2 system, but i do think we will still see life over the next 2-3 years. there is still too much money to be made, and ps3 is still out of reach for many families considering the additional costs of games, extra controllers and the real need of a hdtv to take full advantage of the system (although my 360 looked fine on a standard tv, within 3 months i pushed and bought a used 1080i hdtv plasma for $400! and i love how much better the 360 looks.)
Death of PSP coming soon?
Death of PSP coming soon?

No. No, it isn't.racketboy wrote:Dare I say it's like the Dreamcast of handhelds?
With its ability to play various types of audio files, video files, picture files, and you can DL demos for it. AND the Model 3000 can output games right onto the TV, and the screen doesn't blur like the old one.
AND it can play import games, go online, and supports wireless multiplayer.
And let's not forget the countless great games out for it.
While the Nintendo DS is the best portable game console on the market, the PSP's capabilities as both a game console, portable media player, and wireless internet source make it too good to be the "Dreamcast of handhelds".
Sorry, Racketboy. Looks like this time, you're off by a long shot.

The dreamcast had the ability to do the same things, minus the downloaded demos. want to talk about clear video output, try vgaREPO Man wrote:No. No, it isn't.racketboy wrote:Dare I say it's like the Dreamcast of handhelds?

The DC can play imports with a simple boot disc, and it was the first system with an included built in modem for online multiplayer.AND it can play import games, go online, and supports wireless multiplayer.

Many of my favorite PSP games are DC ports or sequels. I spend way more time playing DC than PSP though.
Minus the wireless internet, which wasn't common in those days, and the fact that it's a console thus not portable, I find my dreamcast experience (especially homebrew/emulators/ease of playing backing up originals) from the past to be quite parallell to my current PSP experience. Not to mention the competition, and the fact that ease of piracy may lead to an early death. While the Nintendo DS is the best portable game console on the market, the PSP's capabilities as both a game console, portable media player, and wireless internet source make it too good to be the "Dreamcast of handhelds".

Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.
Consoles: I have too much stuff
Arcade: No seriously, I have too much stuff. Someone grab a shovel and dig me out of my basement.
Re: Death of PSP coming soon?
People weren't ready for the Dreamcast. The PSP is what people want now-a-days. I think everyones reading into the issue of no christmas (Xmas, depending on the political correctness of your area) releases a bit too much. Either way, ive never cared for hand-helds much. I do all my gaming at home.
Re: Death of PSP coming soon?
I've never let that stop me from amassing a library. I have more DS games than I have for any other system, but the only time I use my DS portably is when I'm on a plane (about 2-4x a year). The portable systems have a lot of good games that I don't feel should be dismissed because of being "just a handheld". Hell, handheld just means that you can get into a more comfortable position while playing.RemyC wrote:Either way, ive never cared for hand-helds much. I do all my gaming at home.

At least Monster Hunter does well in Japan
Other then that it suffers like its brothers the PS2 and PS3 from lack of quality 3rd party titles.
The PS3 is a joke so far. And the Wii is also for good measure!

Re: Death of PSP coming soon?
I don't think its possible that it will die
I mean in the handheld market there is only the inferior ds
1 competitor ONLY
on console there is: wii, 360, ps3, and include in there a pc, not to mention older consoles people play like ps2.
there is ds, and then there is psp for everyone else
how can it die?!
