I'll try to eliminate the usual suspects first: My backups are tested and do work properly (patched to the correct region and more); because it is a Japanese Saturn, the AB method does not work and I must solder to pin 14; Saturn works fine with no chip installed.
What happened during installation: I first wedged the wires in place/taped them to the appropriate pins. The modchip was working perfectly! Great, lets move on to soldering ... my first time soldering so I practiced on some PCB a bit.
The two wires coming from the chip were rather flimsy from the bending I had done and I felt I should replace them. I only have 22 gauge wire, but I felt if I tin the ends well it would not be much of a problem.
Now, despite appearing to be soldered correctly (to me), the disc does not spin and is not read, and the intro animation does not play.
Using a multimeter (for the first time
I figure that solder is supposed to be a conductor, so as long as it bridges between the wire and the pin the connection should be made.
This is my first time soldering electronics, so I might have been a teensy sloppy. However I believe that I have not bridged any other pins with the soldering of pin 14 (I used the teeny cardboard pieces trick).
Might the wire be too thick? Is there some other way the signal would not reach from the chip to pin 14 (won't go through the solder)? Any suggestions would be splendid. I want to make sure I have tried everything before I report to RacketBoy with another faulty chip.
