crazy thing is, that's actually true. They really did alternate sending men with clips then sending men with rifles and not letting them take one step back. Russia couldn't afford weaponry for everybody so really, their main strength during WWII was their manpower.
yeah- its really kind of amazing in its horror.
additionally- everyone read a book for fucks sake.

Stalingrad was one of the most important battles of the war, the Soviets blocked the Nazis and forced them into retreat, but only after 99% of the city was destroyed and over a million Russians had died.
Strangely enough I was reading about the clip-and-no-rifle thing the other day before I herd it was made into a video game. Amazing stuff, must have been one helluva game.

It was also at the beginning of the movie Enemy at the gates. When they first get off the train at Stalingrad an officer is handing out guns and shouting "THE ONE WITH THE RIFLE SHOOTS,THE ONE WITHOUT FOLLOWS HIM,WHEN THE ONE WITH THE RIFLE GETS KILLED,THE ONE FOLLOWING PICKS UP THE RIFLE AND SHOOTS! over and over again. Scary shit.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.
Honestly, that level got pretty hard, but sitting in that boat looking at what I was about to be up against...man, that was a great level.
Frankly, Russia's two greatest military assets up until they tested their atom bomb was the amount of manpower and the fierceness of the winter there. If nothing else, the Soviets had coats. Since the Nazis had launched their campaign in summer, many of their soldiers weren't equipped with the proper gear to handle a Soviet winter. Pretty nasty on both sides.
I had never played a CoD game before, I just didn't think it was my sorta thing but was given number 4 on the PC and loved every second of it, great story and just a blast to play. So gonna grab this too. I'm a convert

Not only a video game, also the very outstanding movie Enemy at the Gates. In my consideration COD1 was directly influenced by it and Private Ryan and Band of Brothers. It featured the great russian sniper Vasily Zaytsev and the clip no rifle was introduced in film there. Its been a long time since I played 1, but I just started playing 2 and your russian character is named Vasily.
