VOTE / BE HEARD: M.U.L.E ----> Yes or No

Post by mjmjr25 »

Fast / Ack / Racket have suggested M.U.L.E. be one of the games for TR in 2014.

Should we play M.U.L.E. as a site / club founders proposal.

If the support isnt there, it's hardly a 'Together' Retro. I vote no.

A fair enough assessment. However the founding core of TR was to not only play good games you may have missed but also historically relevant games in a variety of genres. While MULE is a historically relevant game , it almost single handedly created the economic sim genre, it is also a fantastic multiplayer game, that the majority of gamers have probably never heard of let alone played. Heck even industry greats give it credit: Will Wright stated it was a primary influence for The Sims and Miyamoto said it was one of hte driving factors to make Pikmin.

That said, it is up to the masses for if it will be played. So vote.

If it does manage to get itself on the roster, I'll happy as long as it gets more discussion then the dire month where we supposedly played Populous.

It might help some decisions along if it were mentioned what platforms/services this is available for.

Atari 8-bit, Commodore 64, IBM PCjr, MSX2, NES, PC-8801 MKII, Sharp X1, iOS. There is also a remake freely available online called Planet M.U.L.E. available for PC, Mac, and Linux. There was a modern version developed in 2004 called Space HoRSE for Windows, and another remake is currently played for mobile phones called M.U.L.E. Returns to be released before the end of the year. There's also clones like Subtrade, for the Amiga and MS-DOS, and Traders, for the Amiga, Atari ST, and PC.

Also, M.U.L.E. has been labeled #3 Best Game of All Time by Computer Gaming World, #5 Greatest PC Game Ever by PC World, and #19 Most Important Game of All Time by 1UP.com.
