I hit up two local people for Pachis today on Craigslist. I am hoping one of them comes through. I already have a 73 Nishijin Model A. One of these is a Nishijin Model B, and the other is an 80s (I think Sanyo - bad pictures). While I stated earlier that I would only own three, well I have come to the realization I wont own a pinball table ever, so I am going to get a couple pachis and fake it... Ive repaired a couple Nishijins over the past few years for friends. They are not super complicated, but are really pretty all cleaned up.

FWIW, mine is a Heiwa which seems to be a lot less common.

Out of the dozen or so I have repaired, the two Heiwas had actual problems with them. One was missing a piece, the other had broken parts we had to fake. Thats not to say that they are bad, all of the mechanical Pachis are made to last. I have some friends who bought modern ones who have issues, while the vintages still run strong. Honestly the majority of vintage Pachis that are "broken" just do not have enough balls in them.

Well one of the craigslist guys finally replied and I am going to grab it today:


Whopping $20. I have no idea the brand, but it is an 80s table and that is a slot machine in the middle.

One promise I haven't kept to myself is to make a pachinko board. Wood, brads, stain, paint, and a little elbow grease is all I need.

You can buy parts from a vintage machine for fairly cheap so you could just use real parts. I thought about buying a trashed vintage and building my own - the convention I use to work for had some awesome art that would have been perfect on the table. But I never found a vintage at a price/condition, that got me to do it.

As for the Arabian:


It took an hour with isopropyl, half a magic eraser, some Windex, and about 100 qtips, and now it is fixed and working. The "broken" part was that he did not have enough balls in the relief hopper (the issue with 90% of broken Pachinkos for sale). I manually bypassed the pressure sensor (aka pushed down on it) and the balls started to fly. It lights up, it plays music, it is truly a gambling device. My mother in law who has never seen a pachi sat down and played it for 30 minutes last night. I still prefer vintage mechanical machines to electric, but this is really cool.

Now to buy new balls of ebay.
