I love amusement parks, but have never cared for fairs other than the Taste of Chicago (which is a food fair, so that probably doesn't count). Fairs are always too crowded and everyone walks at a snails pace. It reminds me of what it was like trying to walk through a crowded mall in the 80's.
Fried turkey legs are indeed excellent, but not worth the price of admission.
