Still pretty speechless on SH2, really. It's easily one of the best games I've played this year and one of the most flawlessly crafted games I've hit up in awhile. Reminds me of Metal Gear Solid or something in that regard, the flow of the game is just perfect. There's not a thing I would change and the game in its entirety is one heck of an experience.

inFamous was a slow start but definitely hooked me in after awhile. One of the best city sandbox games I've played in a long time. I'm getting kind of bored with this style of games actually (still curious about GTAV though), but yeah inFamous was good. It made me think of Crackdown, except... it had a story and good characters. And the way the game progressed was a lot better, the balance between you continually getting cooler and more powers and the enemies evolving was really well done. Definitely had some annoying missions, but the pros outweighed those in the end. Guess Sucker Punch is first party Sony stuff I can get behind.

Fantastic ending like most seem to suggest too.

I just finished the Harley Quinn's Revenge DLC for Arkham City, which I somehow never got around to playing until now even after having beaten Batman:Arkham City twice

It kind of sucked. Robin is not fun to play as since he can't do any of the cool stuff Batman can, and nothing really interesting happens over the course of this DLC. It also has one of the worst stealth sections in the game, which actually includes respawning enemies, which I don't think ANY other stealth sequence in the game has. It's just pointless and annoying, as respawning enemies in video games usually are. I'd love to know where Harley is hiding this machine that keeps magically respawning thugs as I litter the level with more and more bodies

Also, you have do a number of stealth attacks on Harley to whittle down her health bar and beat her during this stealth stage, which is utterly ridiculous since any Batman fan worth his salt knows that if any member of the Bat clan were to catch Harley off guard the fight would be over right then and there. The idea that Robin has to try to stealth attack her like five times is so ridiculous, as Batman would have made him turn in his Robin costume after such an embarrassing performance. This is Harley, a C list villain at best, no matter how popular she may be. She's not that tough for anyone trained by Batman to take down ESPECIALLY if that person gets the drop on her.

It's up in the air if I still think they're the scariest games for me, personally. I think there's maybe a bit more density to Silent Hill, and the whole concept is unique and crazy. Just really out there, twisted stuff. Fatal Frame on the other hand is disturbing in that it deals with the supernatural (ghosts), which seems to get me more than other forms of horror... and of course it's just layered with ancient Japanese mystical stuff which is weird as balls.

Tekken 5

Unlocked all the characters save Devil Jin because fuck Devil within and Namco's insistence on putting a shitty half-baked brawler into Tekken games. Also fuck Jinpachi, who is almost at King of Fighters level of cheap, cheesy overpowered boss. He really is the worst, making you fight dumbly and taking no real skill to beat. I've been playing Virtua Fighter 4: Evo alongside this and Dural shows how you can do an overpowered but still beatable boss if you know the rules and system of the game.

Jinpachi and Devil Within aside though, Tekken 5 is one of my favourite tekken's, just behind Tekken 2 and Tekken Tag. It is beautiful for a PS2 game, it has one of the series best line ups and memorable versions of characters, it has both a story and an ersatz-arcade mode as in VF4/5. It's a quality product all round and I would recommend it over Tekken 6 as I feel it's a bit tighter and the roster isn't too overblown. And you get arcade versions of Tekken's 1 through 3 on the disc from the start. Nice.

Crash Bandicoot 2

I always thought I preferred the original but having gone through Crash 2 and got 100%, I can say it is the superior game in almost every facet from graphics to control to level design.

The graphics have been touched up the levels are more diversely themed than before with the usual jungle, ruins bolstered by snow and space levels. Also sewer levels that are actually fun!
A hubworld of sorts is introduced that gives you a selection of five levels per world before the boss and then onto another five levels.

I also preferred the method of attaining the 100% complete grade in Crash 2 as it was less punitive and relied more on thinking out routes to collect all the crates, than merely getting all the crates and not being killed. The bosses are more challenging as well without being unfair. The secrets are cool and finding the secret warp room is cool and harks back to early Super Mario games.

Obtaining some of the coloured gems is a bit cryptic though, for example to get the blue gem you have to complete the first level without breaking a single box. There are zero hints to do this. The hit detection can be a bit off as well. The ruins themed levels have statues that breath fire and even if you appear to have jumped clear over the flames, you will still get hit. Some enemies have hitboxes larger than themselves as well which can be a pain in tight spots. I also think the music is a bit a step down, a bit too beepy and bloopy for my liking.

Really great game all round though and like Crash 1 has aged superbly. A kid could sit down and play this today and have a blast. I liked it so much, I'd put it as my favourite PS1 platformer and one of the best of that gen. Roll on Crash 3!
