I did not see it as a definite list, just his suggestions. I modified it to add mine - only because I don't have enough suggestions to make a full 12 month list.
Oh, I still want to add Crash to the suggestion list somewhere.

Nope. This is an indie game, but yr right, it is in fact: "Bug?"

As for the vote tallies - it's silly. There were never any limits on how many games you could vote for, it was never even touted as a vote. It was "nominations and discussion". Unless we are going to literally vote...or at least limit the number of votes people can have, then this circle is pointless (and comical, at least).

Let's either vote for your 12 most preferred titles, 12 highest totals get played, or let's go back to noise's proposed list from weeks ago, since that's pretty much where we still are anyways. There are some people who have completely left this thread because of the round and round, so they are no longer voting or even being heard. I don't know how any list from this current discussion can have a legitimate mandate.

If it were me, I'd take the changes I'd apply to AJ's list and do it something like this. I don't know what would slot well in each month of the year to get maximum playability, but once we get games done we can get months all taken care of next.

Shock Troopers
Space Harrier
Psychonauts
Deus Ex
KoTR/KoD/TOD/SOM (Capcom Beat Em Ups)
The Longest Journey
The Lost Vikings
Metal Gear
F-Zero Series
Ikaruga
Ultima IV
MMO of community's choice (not gonna be doing it anyway)

The reasons being

- I won't be participating in the MMO no matter what it is. It's a game that would take more than a month to play and require some sort of oddball setup to play since they're so old. It's just not my thing.

- Horror games don't seem to have a lot of backing or interest and that month would be better served filling out another genre that got better votes instead of taking an FPS and adventure game and stuffing them in one month. Maybe we can try it again next year. Over the past few years we've touched upon many of the popular horror series (Splatterhouse, RE, SH, etc.) We don't HAVE to do a horror month, especially with the crop of genres we picked out this year.

- Monster World is a series of games and nobody decided on which one to exactly play. Plus, Wonder Boy was already done (I know they're totally different games, but still)

- The thing going on with Psychonauts being not old enough or whatever, I'd side with the fact that it was a 6th gen game, therefore it would be just fine to play. Super Monkey Ball and SH2 were technically 6th gen as well, so why not?

I too am getting a bit tired of the run around. As mjm pointed out, people are just getting tired of this and not even posting anymore. I'd be happy with a hybrid of AJ's and my calendar as listed above. Here you have games that got big votes and a lot of good discussion with earlier in this thread, and it would just settle a lot of deadlocks at this point.

The TR article writing team (which I'm a part of) would also like to have a calendar finalized too so that we can start picking which games we'll take to write up next year instead of having someone doing it at the last minute which has been a problem over the past few months.

Let's quit fooling around and get it done by the end of this month.

I like ExedExes' list, it seems to have all of the games that got the most votes. But I don't see why you can't combine some games together. Space Harrier needs it's own month. Really? Really?. With games like Ultima 4, Deus Ex, Longest Journey, FF XI, PSO and even Ape Escape and Psychonauts it's clear you can't have multiple games during the same month because they're such long games. But short arcade(y) games? You can easily have 2 or 3 different games the same month and make room for more games that way.

You could combine Shock Troopers and Space Harrier and make room for a horror month (Blood+one of the horror point&click adventures?). Though I agree that a horror game month is not a must, especially when the games nominated for it aren't ideal. Speaking of which, Oddworld would be a perfect fit for a horror month. If Zombies ate my neighbors qualify, then Oddworld should too, the setting, story and gameplay are very unsettling for a sidescroller made in the PS1 era.

Besides that, if I'm not mistaken, provided people aren't willing to do more months that feature 2 games, it seems like there should be a vote for these games
Oddworld vs Lost Vikings
FFXI vs PSO
Ape Escape vs Psychonauts

My personal suggestions:
Fighting game month: Warzard vs Eternal Champions. Or play both of them.
Strategy game month: Starcraft vs Master of Orion 2
Stealth game month: Metal Gear AND Thief 2. I know Thief 2 hasn't been voted thus far, but I think it would be an interesting dichotomy like Together Retro: Silent Hill 2 and Zombies ate my neighbors. Older 2D top down game and a newer 3D game, both belonging to the same genre nonetheless
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

What's the point of grouping games together for a month? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of giving those games the spot light? If one wants to play more arcadey games, then why not do just that?

I think it is likely a God send that some months have shorter games than others. I mean I'm sure everyone else has other games they'd like to play in their spare time.

I don't make the rules, but there have been several multiple game months thus far, so if we're to play 35-60 hour games during some months, I don't see how playing 2 or 3 15-25 minute arcade games during another month is such a bad thing if it helps with coming to some kind of consensus
2008:
Apr - Ristar/Kid Icarus
May - Samurai Shodown/Lunar: Silver Star
Jul - Toe Jam & Earl/RC Pro Am/Diablo II
Aug - Xenogears/Solar Jetman
Sep - Jet Grind Radio/Dig Dug
2009:
Apr - House of the Dead/Virtua Cop/Ghost Squad/Confidential Mission
Nov - Wizard of Wor/Smash TV
2010:
Oct - King of Monsters/Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee
2012:
July - Guardian Heroes/Gunstar Heroes
October - Maniac Mansion/Crush series
2013:
Oct - Horror Double Feature - Zombies Ate My Neighbors & Silent Hill 2
Imo if there is a a dual game month, the games should be some how related (there are several months/games in that list where I see no connection between the games). Like how I drew the parallel between ZAMN&SH2 and Thief 2&Metal Gear. Same genre/style, but very different (East vs West, 2D vs 3D, 8/13 year age difference, different design philosophies etc)

In Space Harriers case I was going to suggest playing Afterburner 2 with it, as they are both super-scalers and are sometimes bundled as part of the same anthology.

I think the year has pretty much drawn itself up on the whole though and Exed's list looks pretty tasty. Still think we should do Vampire Savior for october though.
