Re: Random Thoughts Thread
No, I understand, I think the majority of musicians do have a day job and work and all that. I just don't see it being worth the effort to try and try and try only to be playing Cheatham Street, random parties, and the occasional amateur night at Gruene or something.

Maybe they do it because they enjoy playing music?
You shouldn't let work or money define you.

Re: Random Thoughts Thread
The way you correlate required effort and being a musician can be summed up as just plain sad. I hope there aren't many people that think that way.

I want to play Ninja Gaiden... I want to be good at it even! But, I don't think anyone will care if I'm good at it, and I highly doubt they will pay me for getting good... it just doesn't seem worth the effort.

Well, they are higher than your chances of picking up women with that attitude of yours, I suppose.Forlorn Drifter wrote:What are the chances of me actually making doing good enough to support myself?

Huh. The cop who tells the crew to stop digging in the street in Ghostbusters II also played Will's basketball coach on the Fresh Prince.

Work does define you. How you work, why you work, who you work for and who you support with your work all define you. If I ever have a family I can't go around trying to do shows and make an effort on that if I'm not making enough to support my family. And even then, how right is it for me to be gone on tour or something while I have children and a wife sitting at home? Its a horrible idea.Xeogred wrote:Maybe they do it because they enjoy playing music?

So people who don't make enough money off of their music to support their families (read: the vast majority of touring musicians) shouldn't make music? Frankly, I find that idea outright insulting.Forlorn Drifter wrote:Work does define you. How you work, why you work, who you work for and who you support with your work all define you. Making art is rewarding in and of itself. You however seem to only see it as a means to an end.
