1942 on my famicom. Fired it up last night after the family went to bed. Haven't played this for YEARS, let alone any shumps. I managed to get about 7 levels in with no continues. Looking to pick up 1943 since that has some music and it's not too shabby either.

1942 has music! My favorite track was, "Bleep bleep", but "Beeeep" is a close 2nd.

Seriously though, 1943 is such an improvement.

Edit: Also, realizing that playing a shmup at work has its downsides. Was on the last stage of Galuda with 2 lives left and 11m, and my co-worker says, "I know you are playing a game, but can you pass me a tissue?"

Playing Galuda throughout the graveyard shift at work. Playing on a keyboard is a nightmare, but I'm slowly getting used to it.
Did you find a partner yet? I might be up for that...

Oh, congrats on the Espgaluda clear, by the way!

Looks good, nice format. I'll team up with you if you don't find someone. I assume the games will be easy to obtain being a tournament.

I actually had not noticed that the thing happening over on shmups is not taking place until next year. So, now my goal is to find Fragems and myself a 3rd participant for Racket STGT So that we don't embarrass everyone by winning with only 2 people

Shooter Starfighter Sanvien. This unorthodox shump is really really fun. It actually makes you strategize.

Heyyyyyyy.......

I've been playing a bit of trigger heart exelica lately. I'm out of practice with that game but I still love the mechanics.

Still rocking Gradius II and it's no surprise the musical track for Stage 4 (Volcano Stage) is called "Way out of Difficulty" because it's a difficult stage. There are lot of turrets, lots of enemy dispensers and lots of duckers ready to pounce on you and you need a clear strategy to beat it reliably, dodging will only take you so far.

It also has two extremely difficult respawn spots. Getting the speed-ups is fine, but you really need missile and double to do well and it shows. The game is trying to tell me "Don't rush it, kill the right enemies first and you'll make it through" but right now, taking ten minutes to beat the first half of the game just to die in four doesn't seem to hot to me, so I'm trying to use some save states to learn the level. I can see myself making quick progress and after my second attempt, I managed to beat it without an issue.

Stage 5 (Moai Stage) is tense, but like Stage 3 (Crystal Stage), if you position yourself well, it's very manageable. To compensate, it has a hair-pulling but not as difficult as I thought miniboss and a difficult boss whose safe spots kill you the moment the screen scrolls again.

I can see myself beating these two stages shortly, meaning there are three left: The Speed Stage, the Boss Rush and the Base. The game still has a good amount of pain left to dish at me.

I might ask for some advice at the shmups.com forums, this may very well my first 1CC in any arcade game not called OutRun.
