Like I said, I am very aware of GAINAX using fan service. But Kill la Kill is a bit more excessive and not to my liking. Not just with fan service. But with everything. Constant shouting.. not to my liking either.

I don't really see where you're coming from. The series I mentioned are very different from Kill la Kill. The closest, I guess, would be Diebuster. Maybe because it's the newest of the bunch and probably had some of the same staff as Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill. I have no idea.

That said, I can always admit that there are some gratuitous fan service series I enjoy. Seikon no Qwaser really takes the cake for me.

ZenErik: It's time to drop everything and watch Lagann. I personally love Gunbuster but couldn't stand Diebuster at all, just hated everything. And it's very easy to say Lagann is similar but just does absolutely everything 10x better, lol.
I've seen one episode. It was... okay, I guess. But if it's anything like Kill la Kill, which my friends that love Gurren Lagann are saying, I am not interested.

Gunbuster is far superior to Diebuster, but I still enjoyed both.

Just got this figure a few days ago, actually. I'd love it if they made some newer higher quality ones.

My point is simple. Kill la Kill is definitely a few notches up from their norm, but Gainax is known for gratuitous fan service and it's an established part of almost everything they are involved in. That's just how their stuff is, so citing it as a major complaint seems odd to me. It's something they are intentionally doing that has given them success, it's natural to expect more of it. Opposition to the show just seems like your run of the mill "it's popular, so it's bad" stuff.

Gunbuster will probably end up being way more graphic and to the point with it, so using that as a comparison makes even less sense. Kill la Kill will have to work pretty hard to top the bathtub full of naked underage girls with dripping wet crotch shots scene, no?

Right. Everyone knows anime characters have free will, and free expression, which is being clearly exercised in this case. It would only be bad if she were actually intentionally dressing that way, because then she'd just be a whore, amirite.
I think you're taking things a bit too seriously.

Also, just got around to finishing World God Only Knows: Goddesses and Magical Star Kanon 100%. Loved Goddesses but, MSK was a bit off putting for me.

No doubt that there is a scene or two in Gunbuster that can be scene as a bit excessive. But it's quite a bit different than the in your fan all the time fan service of a series like Kill la Kill. Well, Kill la Kill is a bit in your face all the time in general. Not really just with fan service. Not my style. It's a matter of personal tastes. Nothing to do with "it's popular so it's bad". Two of my favorite series are #1 and #2 in DVD/BD sales since the 2000's started. Monogatari series and Madoka.

I've never been a big fan of the sort of series Kill la Kill seems to be aiming to be. I think the closest I can recall enjoying A LOT is Detroit Metal City. While there isn't much fan service it's got that crude humor and excessive shouting that I generally don't like. Maybe part of the reason I love DMC is because I am a fan of metal. And because of the protagonist's suffering, haha. I tend to like series like that. The Tatami Galaxy, Zetsubou Sensei, etc.

I can see why you don't like KlK, but it doesn't bother me in the slightest like I had said earlier. It's not hard to see what may be off putting about it.

Also, I haven't heard of or seen almst every single show you guys have mentioned. Except for Gurren Lagann.

I liked Queen's Blade. But I generally can't stand full on ecchi shows. I'll just jump to hentai. :P

I'm seeing the director for Kill la Kill is the guy who did Dead Leaves. The crude humor is probably so over the top how can you take it seriously at all? haha. I don't love the guy but Lagann worked for me, which was pretty tame (crude/joke wise) compared to Dead Leaves and such. Yoko is half naked but the show is really about giant robots piercing the heavens and that's one that changes so much from the first episode you can't even describe it.

I've been watching the anime based on Watamote. Very funny stuff, and it doesn't deviate from the manga very much. Hoping for a second season.

Interesting Kill la Kill image, for people focusing on the fan service levels.

I have been watching Gungrave and I really like it so far. The first two episodes turned me off a bit. I'm on 8 now and pretty well hooked.
