What's Your View On Marijuana?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I don't want dig too deep here but the only thing i can't understand how can be marijuana and some other stuff illegal and alcohol is legal. I could understand if both legal or illegal but this situation proves someting really fucked going on and we are just the fags of the governance.

Yeah I don't think they want to introduce a product that is going to replace their current one (supply chains, branding and all cost a lot to set up). Not to mention I know some chain cigarette smokers who do 2-3 packs a day (including my uncle who died from this :( ). You can't smoke that many joints in a day. And cause of competition and ease of supply, you can't charge a crazy amount for it either.

I'm willing to bet the tobacco industry is really lobbying against legalization of Marijuana

Sorry to hear about your uncle.

I'm not sure that it would replace tobacco, people still won't be able to get stoned at work etc so they will still buy cigarettes if they do now. However with the way the laws keep tightening and edging towards banning tobacco altogether (I'm talking decades from now!) it might be wise for the the tobacco companies to look at alternative ways to stay rich.

Interesting point about the competition though - they will be in direct competition with the current black market who don't have to pay taxes. I saw somebody calculate the cost of an 1/8 of weed if it was taxed at the same rate as tobacco and the price was over £300. Don't think anyone can compete at those rates.

Because the goal is not banning stuff, but having people not indulge in them. Since a ban on, say, tobacco would be counterproductive for such a goal, goverments prefer to educate the populace and slowly stop everyone from taking those drugs instead of drastic measures that may backfire.

In other words, some legal drugs would be outright banned if it would improve the situation, but it wouldn't so they aren't banned. This is why, for example, high-concentration ethilic alcohol requires a medical prescription in the UK but nowhere else.

That seems a better reasoning to me than being "fags of the governance".

It isn't legal, at least not in any practical sense because I think it's legal to consume but not legal to buy, sell or grow it.

Is this the part of the elementary shool's drug prevention? I hope they won't change math cirriculum that drastically.

If we truly want to weed out all the idiots on Earth, legalize everything and remove all warning labels.

There are plenty of warnings on products containing alcohol. On the box, on the can, on the bottle, etc.

How would getting rid of the warning labels get rid of the idiots?

I thought one of the marks of the idiot is that they don't bother to read those labels anyway?
