I'm currently playing and enjoying it. If you liked the others, then it's very much more of the same.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

I just played through all but the last 2 campaigns single player. I had a blast. I love that you can do co-op 2 people in the room, and online 4 co-op. That is what makes this game stand apart from others in my opinion. 2 players can move through the level in very different ways to flank the enemy and revive each other in combat if they go down. At times though- it is a bit jarring. For the sake of the story, you are the same person so sometimes the cut scene will be a little awkward and for a hot second you won't really understand whats going on because you are in the same space, and other times there are two of you visually. Most of the time its fine. The split screen is a little odd though. They actually split it vertically and not horizontally AND they crop it werid so that you actually don't use all the screens realestate. It could just be this way for widescreen though. The flame throwers are fun as hell, and the tank mission i actually found enjoyable. The online isn't as strong as cod4, but it's still good. I think thats a testament to how strong the level design is in 4. It's hard to beat 4 in that respect, both online multi and level design... And speaking of 4, while you are in game i don't think the visuals are as good as 4, but I think the graphic design in between missions is fantastic, and they even cut in a few vintage shots of battle. I'm new to call of duty, but i haven't seen that before. It makes you take a breath and realize the horror of war. Breaks the illusion of killing mindlessly and pushes you to face the reality of what you are doing in game. Really respectable aspect to it.

I can see it sucking up some time, but i think left 4 dead is going to pull me harder in the direction of online play, and as far as single player, i think most people would rather play fallout 3 than COD. If you are a fan of the genre, you'll love it and it is totally worth the buy. If you are only picking up one game this holiday season, i would go with something else. I am a fan- i just think there are a crazy amount of strong games coming out this season.

just my 2 cents

For some reason I still consider COD1 the best, but I didn't even beat it. I got to the german campaign. The other games didn't hold me for more than a couple levels.

there is no german campaign as far as i can remember, perhaps you mean the Russians? Regardless, I agree with you. Rushing the beach as a Russian with only a clip and nothing else is something I'll remember for years to come.
Don't that just look oh so tasty?

Really? I distinctly remember loudspeakers that seemed to be Nazi leaders threatening the men that they'd shoot you immediately if you take 1 step backwards or something.

crazy thing is, that's actually true. They really did alternate sending men with clips then sending men with rifles and not letting them take one step back. Russia couldn't afford weaponry for everybody so really, their main strength during WWII was their manpower.
