Sega Street Fighter Games

Post by Mad_Hatter »

Thought I go ahead and create a thread for Sega's Street Fighter games, plus i got a question of my own.

I only really played Street Fighter Turbo 2 on the Genesis.

I needed some help figuring out all the Street Fighter's for the Saturn and Dreamcast. I tried to do it myself, but I thought I ask here for a shortcut. ;) All this Alpha, Third Strike, 2, 3, Super, Turbo.. Not sure what this means.

Anyway, I can sort them out by the dates easily of course.

But I need some help figuring out which ones were home console exclusives or arcade ports, most popular, the best/most balance game, differences in game play, etc.

The Genesis had Special Champion Edition ('Plus Champion Edition in Japan) and Super.

If you played Turbo it was a pirate or a rom of the Beta.

Negative. Champ Edition cart also contains 2 Dash Turbo/ Hyper Fighting so I highly doubt it.

To make my question easier,

What was "the" Street Fighter game for Saturn and Dreamcast?

Yeah but that's not what he meant.

Saturn had:

Street Fighter Collection
Street Fighter Collection 2
Street Fighter Alpha
Street Fighter Alpha 2
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Street Fighter The Movie

X-Men vs. Street Fighter
Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter

Dreamcast had:

Street Fighter 2 X for Matching Service
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Street Fighter III: Double Impact (Contained New Generation and 2nd Impact)
Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike

I don't know about "the" game. 3rd Strike was probably the most popular as far as competing goes if only because it was the last release in a long time. You usually can't go wrong with the last game in each respective "series" though some people will prefer earlier editions due to balance issues and such.

In the specific case of the Genesis I like SCE over Super Street Fighter II since the SSFII port was pretty crap compared to the Super Nintendo one while SCE on the Genesis vs. Turbo on the SNES is a more even fight and comes down to personal taste really.

It has a Hyper Fighting mode and for all intents and purposes is just a console port of Hyper Fighting but that's not what the game was called on the Genesis. Just trying to avoid confusion between the SNES titled Turbo even if they are essentially the same game.

Bleh, I'm sorry I'm tired and I'm not sure I'm even making sense.

I understand that, but its the same game (gameplay and features and whatnot) regardless of title. Lol! He even wasn't entirely accurate in how he worded what he was playing but I obviously understood what he meant according to his reply regarding my response.

No need for apologies.
Besides, your list of SF games on SAT and DC looks about right more or less ;)

SFA3 is a solid port and a must buy DC title. Plus, tons of extras.
