If they make it it would be terrible. It would either be a bunch of old guys doing slapstick (which the Stooges proved becomes sad and not funny [and I love the Stooges]), or it would have the old guys introduce a new cast, which no one really wants. Ghostbusters is just stuck in a bad spot as a franchise. There is no real way to start it up without pissing off its super devoted fanbase.Luke wrote:Murray would definitely be up to do another Ghostbusters, but I think that ship has sailed.noiseredux wrote:I feel like Zombie Land is pretty much proof that he WOULD do another Ghost Busters.Luke wrote: And no matter what I read about "Bill Murray won't do another Ghost Busters" I still place all blame on Harold.

Not every good old franchise needs to be revived. Ghostbusters was great but I don't really want another, regardless of if it's possible or not. I would prefer that the time and money that would be used for that be put toward a totally new movie instead.fastbilly1 wrote:If they make it it would be terrible. The more I watch Ghostbusters, the less I like them. We bypassed them completely this year for our halloween roundup.
The first 15 minutes of the first one is still funny, but after that, just...meh.
Just one man's opinion, but I think people probably like the nostalgia of the films, more than the films themselves at this point, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

personally I just love Bill Murray. He's one of those guys that doesn't have to say anything particularly funny and I find it hilarious. ("I said good morning, Gil.") But I've watched both movies as recently as last year. I still love the first. The second I like, but that one prob falls more under nostalgia.mjmjr25 wrote: Just one man's opinion, but I think people probably like the nostalgia of the films, more than the films themselves at this point, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I really like Bill Murray too and I generally agree. But those movies just don't do much for me beyond his scenes. I wouldn't have expected the effects to age well, but the cheesy lines, egh.
His early 2000's stuff was really sour too. Broken Flowers and the Aquatic Life were generally depressing and probably exposed his acting chops and not just being a goofball, but...I like the goofball. He was dramatic in Rushmore but it was still a funny movie at least.

GHOSTBUSTERS is near perfection. The writing, the music, the casting, all near perfect. Murray's comedic timing may have never been better. Even him playing two keys on the piano followed by "they hate that" is still hilarious.
The sequel antes up the "NYC vs. The World" cliche, but the first movie is mostly void of bad cliches and sub-par writing. I would definitely give GHOSTBUSTERS a 4 star review. It was meant to be a clever comedy with a tad of spookiness and a sprinkle of a love story. It accomplished what it set out to do, ten fold.

Murray's acting in Anderson movies is amazing, and MOONRISE KINGDOM is a delight.

Exposed was the wrong word. Meant, "Highlighted" as he was good in them and he showed he could do a dramatic role. Doesn't change the fact i'd rather see him be outstanding in a comedy as opposed to very good in a dark/sad drama.Luke wrote:mjmjr25 wrote: Broken Flowers and the Aquatic Life were generally depressing and probably exposed his acting chops and not just being a goofball, but...I like the goofball. He waited until he was fully established before doing that - so it hasn't hurt him. There are plenty of young comedians who try to be serious actors too early in their careers and they drop off the map.

On a mountain of skulls, in the castle of pain, I sat on a throne of blood! What was will be! What is will be no more! Now is the season of evil!
Man, Ghostbusters is perfect. Rose-colored glasses be damned.
Sent from my heart and I really mean it
