Let's Talk Guitars

Post by WrathOskvro »

Any guitar players here? I'm sure there must be a few. Let's start out with our rigs. Mine below of course.

Guitars
–Ibanez RG2EX2
–Ibanez RG8 (equipped with Lace Deathbar in the bridge, X-Bar in the neck)
–Schecter Omen 7 Extreme
–Schecter Stiletto Elite 5
–Fender FSR Telecaster
–Ariana WGAGP-2BK Acoustic

Picks Used
-Dunlop Jazz III XL (Black) - This used to be my main goto pick every time. It sounds amazing on pretty much anything and due to its stiffness, I have a ton of control. However when playing the 8 string, eventually my hand will get sore using it, and it doesn't have very good 'bite' or attack on the thicker strings. Just picture playing a bass with a really thick pick and you get the idea. So because of this, I switched to...

-Dunlop Ultex Sharp .73mm - Will probably stick to the Jazz III on most of my guitars, but this pick in my opinion is the BEST for playing an 8 string. My hand no longer hurts, it improves the tone of your playing immensely due to giving better attack on the strings, and it's still thick enough that you have alot of control over it and can still do very quick and accurate licks with no trouble at all. I love this pick

Amps
–Peavey Vypyr 75
–Peavey Max 115

Other Goodies
–M-Audio Studiophile AV40 Studio Monitors
–M-Audio Oxygen 49 MIDI Controller
–Audio Technica ATH-M45 Studio Headphones
–TC-Electronic Desktop Konnekt 6 Interface
–Shure SM58 Microphone

Software
–Propellerhead Reason 5.0
–Cockos Reaper
–Toontrack Superior Drummer 2.0 w/ Metal Foundry & Drumkit From Hell
–Toontrack EZMix
--------

One thing I wanted to mention about the amp I use, I used to have a B-52 AT212 (sounded AMAZING) which I would most definitely use in a live setting, and did a few times. Unfortunately I moved to Wisconsin for a while and ended up having to sell it, which is why now I just have a Peavey Vypyr 75. I do love my Vypyr 75 though and I got an excellent deal on it. Only paid $80.

Also if anyone is looking to get the new Ibanez RG8, the pickups will need swapping pronto. The stock pickups in mine were so terrible they were unusable. I've heard other people get better results so it's possible that there may have simply been something faulty with mine but they were beyond terrible for me. Hence why I got the Lace pickups, which make the guitar sound like an absolute beast. :D

droolin' at that tele. my first guitar was a MIJ '62 reissue tele, made in '84. always have a soft spot for those necks.

currently all i have is an LTD M-300. i don't get to do much playing these days. thinking about destroying my debt to income ratio and picking up some new gear next year, though.

Yeah I've always loved the Tele ever since I started playing. The neck on the FSR model is absolutely fantastic too. If I ever had a custom shop guitar it'd pretty much be a 7 string Tele with humbuckers with close to the same neck profile as the one I have. Since you like that Tele I may as well show a closeup of it too:

So, do you participate in any of the Dwelling of Duels events?

Niiiiiiiiice. I'd like to get into "regular" guitar someday. For now I play an Ibanez bass. Sorry this is the only pic I have of it and I'm too lazy to take another.

BoneSnapDeez: Completely fine with me haha. I do love me some Ibanez, even some of their Gio models are pretty decent.

marurun: Haven't actually heard of that, but I'm not really into competing when it comes to music, I just like to write it and have a good time. :P From what it looks like though, it's a contest of reworking video game music right? If so, you may be interested in my remake of Spring Yard Zone from Sonic 1. Found here:

I have a 5 string Spector fretless (that's for sale btw ). I don't play it much at all anymore and I'm saving up for a motorcycle.

What I do play a ton of, however, is my 1997 Warwick Corvette Standard. Made in Germany and sounds unbelievably good.

Well, it's not like actual competition for prizes or anything. It's just fun competition for the heck of it. That's why some folks submit alts not intended for judging. Virt (Jake Kaufman) of WayForward fame has submitted quite a bit, even. Mostly it's just a place to showcase your work with similarly-minded individuals. As a non-musician, I don't participate, but I enjoy the output.

Ahh gotcha. I might give that a shot sometime. I'm currently working on a couple different projects which is occupying most of my musical time :P
