Tile for a website:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutoria ... windows-8/

For tiles for a program, I had good luck with OblyTile:

But I do not use 8 on a daily basis, just 7 and Linux Mint.

I used OblyTile when I had Windows 8, but since 8.1 and it improved tile system, which just looks nicer. I just use the native tile system now, less effort.

Though some people have some amazing tilesets up for OblyTile

I don't think this is necessary for 8.1. The visualization for desktop shortcuts has been improved; these days I just do right click->Pin To Start on a desktop shortcut and I have a pretty good looking tile. The main thing that having a separate program that creates full appx tiles for you does is it allows you to specify a background color, rather than relying on the algorithm (I think it's the same one that determines the highlight color of taskbar icons).

Now that i think about it MS should have a video tutorial with Windows 8. I'm actually surprised it doesn't.

I was using Classic Shell when Chrome stopped working for me, so I uninstalled it thinking that could be the issue. It wasn't and I didn't reinstall cuz I knew 8.1 was coming soon and was hoping that would fix it for me. But here we are.

yeah dude, so weird. It worked fine for a couple weeks. Then all the sudden, nothing. I've tried like I said all kinds of trouble-shooting via Google. I obviously did a virus scan, malware scan, nothing came up. Don't know what's up.

EDIT:

more weird. Tonight Chrome will open, but only from Win Explorer folder. If I pin it to the taskbar, it won't open from there. Baffling.

I'm thinking the title of this thread is backwards. It should say "Will PC gaming be the death of Windows 8"

MAN! I signed up for the Media Center update/download and NEVER got the info, license, whatever. I'm kind of cheesed about that being an early Win8 adopter.

Anyway, with that said my update to 8.1 went flawlessly on my Acer w500. I did it on the 2nd day of availability.

I'm probably going to get a Win8 tablet to replace my iPad 2, just so I can play PC games on a more portable device. I think I'll wait a month or so before the Bay Trail tablets come out before I make my decision. Ultimately, I can choose between good cost and battery life but low power, or the inverse of that if I go with an i5-powered tablet. Any suggestions one way or the other?
