What was the last movie you've seen?

I watched the rest of Akira.

Um....the animation was really outstanding, but the plot....well.

The world building was nice, but really it just felt like a made in Japan Metropolis (yes I know there exists an anime version of that also).

The protagonist was fun but I don't feel that he really belonged in the story. Probably because there was a lot of backstory missing?

The overall plot was the same pretentious anime bullshit about man and power of the god and all, but it was well done so I didn't mind.

Overall nice film, but I don't get why it's called a master piece, unless we are just talking about the animation and drawings, in which case yes, they were amazing.

Main thing with Akira's plot/etc to keep in mind is that it's super, super compressed. The manga is, what, over 2000 pages total, and wasn't finished when the movie was released? A lot had to be simplified or cut out to make it work for a film.

The animation and production values are really the thing, as they set a new bar at the time, and are still impressive.

That said, the plot still works well enough. If you look at the director's next big film, Steamboy, or the Spriggan movie (which he supervised), you get a similar style and quality, but the narratives are weaker.

THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL looks amazing. I'm highly anticipating it, big time.

Does this movie hold up or what? I don't even know how long it's been since I've seen it, but I was very overdue for a re-watch. I absolutely loved it though, as expected. I might have to check out some of the other Romero films. I'm not entirely sure if I've seen the original Dawn of the Dead, and I know I haven't seen Day of the Dead.
Yep, great movie. Barabara seems a litle too damsel in distress for the modern day. But other than that, yeah, it's aged great. And I wasn't around in the 60s and 70s when this was still current, so no nostalgia talking here.

I went and saw Captain Phillips. Unlike movies such as Argo or Apollo 13 that manage to keep you on the edge of your seat, this movie never got me feeling like the outcome was in doubt. So for most of the movie things were pretty average. But then in the last 10 minutes Tom Hanks puts on an amazing performance as Captain Phillips after he is rescued. I'd almost recommend the movie just for that scene alone.

Akira is one of my all time favorite movies, not just anime.. I wish I had a Blu ray of it, the 2000ish DvD I have is getting dated...

hahahaha. I never watch dubs mate. I mean seriously, it's like a totally different piece of work when you watch the dub, I have no idea why anyone would.

I'm a bit surprised Hollywood is still using the "He's going to retire in x amount of days" cliche. Anyone who is about to retire in a movie still means certain death.

edit* Does anyone actually want to see Bad Grandpa?

I'd guess the same people who wanted to see Jackass.
