Nintendo Wii Ceases Production

Post by casterofdreams »

Reports are coming in: http://kotaku.com/its-officially-over-t ... 1448945660

It has been a good run. Had fun with it till I lost it and all the games in Hurricane Sandy last year and just didn't get it replaced.

Community thoughts on the story?

Sounds about right. Nintendo was quick to kill off the Gamecube when the Wii launched as well, and I seem to recall something similar happening with N64.

PS3 has a legitimate shot at outselling the Wii eventually. Granted the PS4 will have been out for a few years by then and it won't even matter.

Farewell to the console that got me back into gaming. And to think I thought I was done after the SNES...

To think they kept support after death going so long. Gamecube compatible systems were made for Japan until this month.

Well, hopefully now Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Kirby's Return to Dreamland will go down in price...

Wii came out when I was 13 and it's just now going out of production. It's cool when a system lasts that long. There's no denying it's high time they stopped though.

So I wonder what the end sales numbers for the Wii Mini were?

Totally forgot about the Wii mini. I'd say eliminate the Wii so that there isn't any confusion as to what a non gamer should buy. I heard that was a concern at first.

edit*: I mean confusion with the Wii U in retail places. Sorry bout that.

I can dream though, I can dream...though it is pretty likely that prices will stay relatively high until SMG3 and another Kirby game come out.
