I'm still watching it and it has its ups and downs.

The animation has nice touches but is really inconsistent. For the most part the show's stylization and setting are pretty cool and surreal. The writing can be enjoyable but is sometimes too spastic for its own good (mostly for Mako's dialogue, sometimes her character hits the mark and sometimes she just feels pointlessly obnoxious).

The blatant sexualization of the main characters is... pretty pointless and distracting. It's not like Queen's Blade or anything and it doesn't bother me that much, but I feel like it shifts emphasis away from the characters' likable qualities. I was especially disappointed with the antagonist's sexualization because I REALLY like her character and persona.

I will say though, for Studio Trigger's first shot at a big project it's not bad. The lack of funding isn't surprising in that context and I can imagine that they just sexed it up to give it more basic appeal and play things safe. I would also guess that we've already seen everything negative that the show is going to exhibit, so if you can get past that (or aren't bothered by it in the first place) it should be a fun ride.
Uh, dude... KlK is a somewhat parody. Mako is meant to make fun of moe characters and the oversexualization is something the characters are aware of, so it makes fun of that to a point as well. I'm really loving KlK so far.

I don't totally buy that. When you get angles and scenes like these:

Even as an advocate for the show it's kind of hard to defend KlK as being strictly parody without any exploitative elements.

I said somewhat, I didn't say it was completely parody. And in the third picture, didn't she tell Mako to shut up?

Kill la Kill is a Gainax show. Fan service and tits is kind of what Gainax does. I'm not sure why anyone is surprised/bothered by it at this point. If you take issue with that kind of stuff, there's not much point in watching it in the first place.

Well, yea. But not my kind of GAINAX. There is certainly fan service in my favorite GAINAX series, but not to this extent. And the characters are plain annoying. I guess Gurren Lagann fans are loving it. Never watched that.

My favorites are Gunbuster, The Wings of Honneamise, Evangelion, and Diebuster.

It's Studio Trigger (but yeah a lot of the staff is ex-Gainax). It's just a point of criticism, even in my previous post I stated that it didn't bother me that much. All I'm saying is that I hate to see a show that's close to giving us something cool and unique start showing characteristics of the same old throwaway fanservice of the season. It's just disheartening when the industry doesn't think that shows can be carried on their own merit.

I echo this sentiment.

Doesn't bother me in the slightest, since Ryuko has stated she hates being dressed skimpy.

Right. Everyone knows anime characters have free will, and free expression, which is being clearly exercised in this case. It would only be bad if she were actually intentionally dressing that way, because then she'd just be a whore, amirite.

Wings of Honneamise, I'll give you. One of the best things Gainax has ever produced. But Gunbuster, Evangelion, and Diebuster, are choked full of fan service and tits. Gunbuster has several scenes of frontal nudity, and the famous pubes scene, so I really don't know where people are coming from when they bring that up. Evangelion isn't too overboard with it, but I challenge you to point out a single episode that does not contain fan service.

For the record I am not the kind that is blinded or consumed by fan service. I am very indifferent to it overall. I don't particularly like it, but as an anime fan, it is just something you have to deal with and shrug off sometimes. Just saying that for Gainax, this is the norm. I would really like to see more serious stuff along the lines of Wings of Honneamise and non-tits focused Evangelion from Gainax.

Well maybe we'll get that from Studio Kara(?) someday when they're not continuing to milk out Eva lol.

ZenErik: It's time to drop everything and watch Lagann. I personally love Gunbuster but couldn't stand Diebuster at all, just hated everything. And it's very easy to say Lagann is similar but just does absolutely everything 10x better, lol.
