I am very guilty of this, I used to think good/attractive graphics means a good game. I was very very wrong. A lot of the reasons is that the game just not be my type. List any games you had this kind of experience with...
Thanks to youtube, and user reviews, now I can see legitimate game reviews and not make impulse buys. Of the current games that I was looking to get were The Last Story OR Pandora's Tower. Watching Youtube reviews I learned it had complex controls and weird gameplay system.
On my list is Dragon's Crown, Odin Sphere, The Neverhood, muramasa demon's blade
Played
Myst 3: Exile - This game looked so awesome , a 3D interactive world. The truth is , its very slow paced about solving puzzles. Its not a bad game, its just not my cup of tea. Started this game over 4 years ago... still did not complete it
Did you ever bought a game for its graphics & regretted it?
Re: Did you ever bought a game for its graphics & regretted
Graphics have always been the last thing I've cared about when it comes to games. Yeah Donkey Kong Country, or Mario 64, or that track and field game for the PS2 floored me visually at the time, but it's definitely not why I dropped money for them.

I don't think I've ever bought a game for its graphics.

A more interesting question would be: "have you ever bought a game just because of its art style and regretted it?"
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

Odin Sphere - all I needed to know was that it had beautiful hand-drawn 2D graphics with action-RPG graphics.
The game itself was *such a slog* I nearly gave up. The gameplay is just terrible.

Haha, yeah. I got into the second scenario/character or whatever and noticed there was 5 left or something, and the repetition/backtracking/same levels over again/seed grinding thing... holy balls. It got old.Nemoide wrote:Odin Sphere - all I needed to know was that it had beautiful hand-drawn 2D graphics with action-RPG graphics.

I've been very hesitant about Muramasa ever since, but it's always looked better...

Muramasa is about 100 times better.Xeogred wrote: I've been very hesitant about Muramasa ever since, but it's always looked better...
And I haven't "bought a game for the graphics" since Donkey Kong Country (I got the VHS tape from Nintendo Power before the game's release and I was quite impressed).

I did this in arcades when I was a kid. I'd walk around the arcade and see a pretty game, dump my quarter(s) in it, then regret it right away. Most memorable we're Pit Fighter, Time Traveler, and Time Killers. Holy ass those games sucked. Time Traveler cost a dollar to play, and that was a lot of money out of my arcade rations.
