It's a pretty dumb cycle though...
Publishers: "we won't port games to the Wii U, because it's not profitable"
Consumers: "We won't buy a Wii U, because there's no games"
Have publishers considered that maybe, if they gave the Wii U a chance and took a little risk, the profitability of porting and creating games to the console would increase? Instead, the Wii U's launch featured a bunch of lazy ports of games that could be had for half the price on the PS3 and 360. Then they all reacted when they didn't sell by not making any more games for the Wii U. It's dumb.
How is your Dreamcast gaming going on?

It's not their job to sell the Wii U. It's Nintendo's. It is kind of a chicken-and-egg kind of thing, but the responsibility for fixing it falls to the platform holder, not third parties.Reprise wrote: Have publishers considered that maybe, if they gave the Wii U a chance and took a little risk, the profitability of porting and creating games to the console would increase? Re: How is your Dreamcast gaming going on?
I think part of the problem, too, is that Nintendo has released more re-releases as "must have titles" for the system, when they really should be focusing on more original titles. A lot of Nintendo fans hang on to their old Nintendo systems. More so than other retro consoles due to Nintendo exclusives; so many of them already have these games. Personally, I'm not gonna pay $60 for a game I already own just for a prettier coat of paint. Maybe when it's a bargain-bin title, but by then the damage is already done for Nintendo.
Also, yeah, lack of third-party support. It may be Nintendo job to initially sell people on the system, but third-party support is what keeps the system alive in-between Nintendo's first-party stuff. The U.S. Saturn is a testament to this fact.

Re: How is your Dreamcast gaming going on?
From their perspective, why should they take a risk though? They could just sell their stuff to PC, Xbox and Playstation and make profits. It's more on Nintendo than it is the big 3rd party publishers.Reprise wrote:It's a pretty dumb cycle though...

Re: How is your Dreamcast gaming going on?
It just seems stupid to me. When I said taking a risk, I meant with exclusives or new IPs, but I'm sure it's hardly risky simply porting games to the Wii U. I would bet any money that the Wii U would be doing a hell of a lot better right now if the initial ports weren't lazy and overpriced (Mass Effect 3 being sold for the same price as the entire trilogy boxset for the PS3 and 360) and more multiformat games made it to the Wii U.
And take EA and other big publishers. OF COURSE the Wii U is struggling and currently unprofitable when you're basically coming out in public and saying in the media that the console is shitty and should basically die. What's everyone's reaction to that? "Oh, I better not buy that console for my kids/myself."
Meh rant over. Sorry for the off-topic.

I still wonder how a game would look like if some one maxed out its capabilities ...
Re: How is your Dreamcast gaming going on?
Well, some did. EA didn't, but Capcom for example gave immense support to the Dreamcast. There were quite a few decent ports and exclusives from other third parties too.RCBH928 wrote:
