I never smoke inside either, especially around electronics.

All windows open and two fans swirling and I'll allow cigars in the house during a poker night. The smell only lingers for a day, and I promise there is no smoky smell in the poker den.

To me, cigarettes don't even taste right indoors.dsheinem wrote:smoking inside is grosslisalover1 wrote:Now I know where all those smoke-encrusted PlayStations and SNESs come from.
Like I used to say, "I'm gonna go outside to get some fresh air and smoke a cigarette."

I bought Worms 3 on iOS , only to learn there was Worms and Worms Armageddon ... I hope this sequel is the kind of sequel that is an improved version on its predecessor , and not the kind where the original version was always the best version

I used to be a cigarette smoker, and I used to smoke inside.
When you're a smoker, you really don't notice it as much as non-smokers. Now that I am a non-smoker, I IMMEADIATLY know when I step into someone's house that smokes inside. It's a strong odor, but as a smoker you're just so damn used to it.
I still smoke inside, but not tobacco. It doesn't tend to stain my consoles. Well, except for my SNES, but I bought that already severely yellowed. So that one wasn't on me. And maybe it's the same deal as the cigarettes and I'm just used to it, but I don't seem to notice a lingering smell, either.

No kidding. I smoked Camel wides and Lucky Strikes for around four years straight. I quit cold turkey when I was around 23(ish) and I remember sitting in class next to a current smoker and I thought "Man, did I really smell like THAT?"BurningDoom wrote:I used to be a cigarette smoker, and I used to smoke inside.

I still have the same reaction to this day if I'm behind a smoker in the grocery store. And it's just not the people who stink, it is everything they own. Not just their clothes, EVERYTHING. Cars, shoes, purses, houses, somehow even their dvd discs reek.
So here's some news from Captain Obvious: Negotiating without knowing your facts will destroy you. A common motto I hear from superiors is "Know your facts, not just the numbers". Good advice.
I'm buying a new kitchen sink and faucet for my wife for her Birthday (don't blame me, she's the one who wants it). So I called the main guy at the company who did our new air conditioning units and asked for an install price. I figured if I had to purchase a basin wrench and other tools, it may be cheaper to have it professionally installed. He gave me a quote of $85usd.
Another tip: Never shoot from the hip in negotiations. I told the guy I would explore my options but would be certain to call him back. In the meantime I spoke with other plumbers and contractors, and also found a 20% off coupon from one of their main competitors.
Long story short, I got $85usd down to $50usd, and saved over 40% off the original quote by looking around and not settling for less.
Re: Random Thoughts Thread
I don't know about that. Of course, being a smoker (I am one) I wont notice nearly as much as a non-smoker. But I can still tell when people smoke inside.BurningDoom wrote:When you're a smoker, you really don't notice it as much as non-smokers. I absolutely hate smoking inside. Of course, I currently don't even have that option, but if I did I wouldn't. I don't like smoking inside. The smoke just floats around the room long after your done. You might smoke a cigarette for 5 minutes, but if you stay in the room you're actually smoking for a while longer. Even as a smoker, I find it disgusting.
But I'm probably the most conscientious smoker ever. I don't like when I can smell smoke on myself, and I certainly don't like my stuff smelling like smoke. I do smoke in my car, but I try my best to keep the smell out as much as possible. Whenever I get the chance, I'll ask a non-smoker if they can smell smoke in my car. The answer is usually no. The exception is my mom, with her ridiculous sense of smell that only a mom can have.
Like I said, even as a smoker I don't like smoking inside. Maybe it's because I like to keep my stuff nice? Any one that has bought from or traded with me here wouldn't be able to guess I was a smoker.Luke wrote:I still have the same reaction to this day if I'm behind a smoker in the grocery store. Aside from stuff smelling, and I generally just don't like being in a smoked filled room, there's also the lazy factor. If I could smoke inside, and had no problems doing it, I would end up smoking a lot more. Most likely. Having to go outside to smoke, you can budget yourself a lot better. And also, I actually like going outside to smoke. Even in the winter. When I (hopefully) quit smoking, I will actually miss taking 5 minute breaks outside. And I don't just mean while at work, but also at home even. I can't really even explain why, I just like it.
That's probably why those electronic cigarettes didn't really help me. I didn't get one to be able to smoke anywhere, I got one as a way to try and cut back or even quit smoking all together. What I should have tried doing with them is totally pretending they're a real cigarette and going outside to smoke them.
Which reminds me, the closest times I've come to quitting all together were from using a cigarette called Quest. They come in three steps. The first having slightly less nicotine than a normal cigarette. Step 2 having way less, and Step 3 having almost none. The only problems where Step 3 was basically like smoking air, and not a lot of places carry Quest which is the main reason I stopped using them the last time.
The reason why I liked them, and why I felt like they could really help me quit, was because I feel like I'm more addicted to the physical activity of smoking rather than the drug. Of course my body is addicted to nicotine, but I guess it's that mind over matter thing. I can make it to Step 2. I can smoke a Step 2 cigarette and be fully satisfied with it. Knowing that if I keep it up, my body is getting much less nicotine than it would have from normal cigarettes. So I feel like if I could keep up with it, while trying to cut back the number of cigarettes I smoke each day, that I could get to a point where I could quit or at the very least smoke a really low amount of cigarettes.
Re: Random Thoughts Thread
I never tried to quit, I flat out quit. I was in my car driving to campus, opened a pack of Camel wides which had 18 smokes left in it, looked at it, and threw it out the window. For some reason I asked myself "Self, (I didn't really address myself as self) do I really want to do this my entire life?".
Now I did quit at a young age, but I was certainly a smoker in college. And like fasting, the first three days are terrible, but after a while you have something close to an epiphany (or as Kelly Bundy calls it, "an apostrophe") how glad you are that you quit.

Re: Random Thoughts Thread
I've grown up around it a ton, think we even talked about it recently somewhere around here. So yeah have had my fair share of second hand smoke and I can definitely confirm, you stink when you come back from smoke breaks.

Re: Random Thoughts Thread
What my problem is, I'm the kind of person that needs a vice. If I quit smoking, will I just take up another bad habit? And also, I just flat out like smoking.Luke wrote:I never tried to quit, I flat out quit. Apostrophe/epiphany...
