Hey Dudes, if you missed the premiere of TOY STORY TERROR on abc, it will be re-airing on abc family tonight at 8pm est.

It is definitely worth checking out, even if you aren't familiar with the Toy Story series. Pixar didn't cut any corners either as the story and animation are excellent. There are also some great laugh out loud moments, so give it a go at 8pm or record it.

I haven't posted the last two days with what horror films I've been watching, so it's time to catch up a bit in the thread here.

Image

The Lords of Salem is basically what happens when Rob Zombie does a take on Rosemary's Baby. It's a strange movie, with a plot that fluctuates for me, but Rob Zombie is capable of some incredible nightmarish imagery. And that is what I think makes this movie great. I really enjoyed The Lords of Salem. It's a creepy and off putting film which ramps up the dread through its bizarre images and cryptic cinematography. Everything works here: the glaring lighting, the twisted acting, the grotesque witches, the droning music, all of it comes together for a bizarre package that I thought was incredible.

Image

Lucio Fulci creates some incredible effects, and I do enjoy a great Video Nasty, but with some horrendous dubbing and poor framing on the DVD version I watched, I admit that I had trouble keeping focused on this one. But Fulci definitely delivered on the gore, eye trauma, and the zombies. I think Zombi 2 outdid the original Dawn of the Dead for its gore(but not for its plot or performances), though Romero and Tom Savini did even better with 1985's Day of the Dead. I think Fulci's The Beyond was still a better film.

And this is probably the best film I have watched this month. Trick 'r Treat is amazing, and someone should go to jail for deciding this didn't need a theatrical release. Basically the film is a set of multiple stories all entwining in a small town in Ohio on Halloween. While time fluctuates and characters come and go, the townspeople continue their celebration, unaware of the nasty things which occur around them: murder, hot werewolves, pranks, massacres, and the little trick-or-treater named Sam. And while there are many points that I thought were great, Sam stands out to me as one of the best horror film creations in a long time. Trick r' Treat has got to be one of the best horror films of the 2000s and certainly one of the best films I've ever seen concerning the Halloween holiday. There's a bit of everything for everyone, including some wonderful performances from Brian Cox, Dylan Baker, Anna Paquin, and most definitely child actor Quinn Lord.

Total: 18

Anguish
Demons
Creepshow
The Beyond
Zombi 2
From Beyond
The Beast with Five Fingers
The Screaming Skull
The Killer Shrews
The Tingler
Viy
At Midnight I'll Take Your Soul
Black Sunday
Children of the Corn
The Burning
The Descent
Trick 'r Treat
The Innkeepers
Stake Land
The Evil Dead (remake)
The Lords of Salem
The Gate
Kuroneko

Alternates:

Halloween H20
Fright Night

Guess this is just a movie thread now, but I was grocery shopping at Walmart today and saw a 9.99 bin by the checkout registers in front of the store. They had a copy of Dead Space 2 Limited Edition for PS3, which was the only thing in there that interested me. They had all three Mass Effect games too, for both systems, but I've already played those.

So I got DS 2. Turns out it comes with a free copy of Dead Space Ignition. I played the first Dead Space and never finished it and had no intention of playing another Dead Space game, well, ever. However, perhaps this happened for a reason. I'm gonna give Ignition a shot, assuming it plays well with a controller as I don't have a Move. If it doesn't, I'll just dive right into Dead Space 2. I hear it has a new game plus, which is awesome. I hope this game can be as fun as Resident Evil 4, or at least come close. It is Oct, so I guess I should play something with a horror theme, even though I imagine this will probably be heavy on action like most horror games these days

My wife and I just finished up:

V/H/S (2012)...or as I called it:
Douchebags and Dudebros Film Themselves Getting Killed by Monsters: The Movie!
A lot of member's have watched it this year; so, I won't say too much...except that I found it thoroughly mediocre. The first part of the anthology was excellent. The second and third were very weak, however, and the the fourth and fifth didn't quite redeem it. My biggest problem with the film was that all of the "found footage" was comprised of things people would not film. (Only the fourth part of the anthology seemed authentic.) In this respect, the film stands in stark contrast to The Bay, where each shot was composed of footage that might actually exist. Finally, I found most of the characters unlikable, and the anthology format made it difficult to become invested in any of them.

Just read about that bullshit, 3 saves, no checkpoints Hardcore mode in Dead Space 2. Looks like I won't be playing this after all.

I refuse to play games that treat gamers like little children with endless hours of expendable free time.
