Well in fairness, Genesis/MD cartd are much more accessible than one of the rarer and more expensive sega cd titles.

Yeah, I think I'll reiterate my votes, since my original post was kind of unclear
My votes:
+1 Deus Ex
+1 Ultima IV
+1 The Longest Journey
+1 Ape Escape
+1 Warzard
+1 Oddworld
+1 Castle of the Winds
+1 Ikaruga
+1 Starcraft/Warcraft
(Games I personally suggest):
+1 Master of Orion 2 (I'd rather have this than Starcraft/any RTS)
+1 Thief 2
+1 NetHack (I'd rather have this than Castle of the Winds)
+1 Ultima 5 (I'd rather have this than Ultima 4)

I'd be down. It would bring more ladies to the site.
The male to female ratio in this hobby is about 99 to 1 and the Japanese are notorious for their language skills when it comes to English, so I don't see the logic behind that :P
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

We have genre-based clubs currently in SotM and the Together RPG group formed by regular members, so why not do something similar based for platforms? A Together SNES or Genesis Monthly club would work to show these single platform games while allowing the main group to continue showcasing the hundreds of other games that were widely released but haven't gotten much love by us.

And for the record, I still have never played Snatcher.
I'm seeing a happy medium. Maybe an "Console Exclusive Month" where we pick a console exclusive game for either an 8, 16, or 32 bit consoles.

I would be all for this. So much easier to emulate these too if needed.

I'm going to +1
Ultima IV
Oddworld
Ikaruga
Monster World (preferably Dragon's Trap/Monster World IV).
because I own them but have never played/completed them. Selfish, I know.

If there is any time left for suggestions I'd add Vampire Savior for october's horror theme as it is pretty widely available after its XBLA/PSN re-release and it is awesome.

At this rate every single month could have a subset of the forum playing like 6 different games at once.

Aren't you guys a little worried that all these different "____ of the month" things might be fragmenting the userbase a bit too much?

I do like having a horror themed game for October, not necessarily a survival game but like someone said Dark Stalkers or even what we have now in Zombie Ate my Neighbors. I think it's a nice gimmick/tradition to keep up.

No, not at all. To the contrary in fact. I think I play a lot less than the average member and I like the opportunity to focus on a game or two. NG has I think 5 active "___ of the month" clubs and if it's a game I have, I give it a shot. Without these clubs, I think a lot of us might have it but never find a reason to play it, or better yet, might not have been exposed to it, but see their forum friends discussing it and decide to give it a try. Participation is always optional and the "big / established" clubs like STGT on shmups or TR on racket will still be the big / established clubs that folks look forward to.

Updated:

Of note:
Ultima IV now has 7 votes
Castle of the Winds now has 5 votes
Monster World now has 7 votes
Shock Troopers now has 7 votes
Oddworld now has 10 votes (making it the most popular game on the list at this point)
Ikaruga now has 7 votes
Starcraft now has 5 votes.

I also added my vote to Monster World and Vampire Saviour.

Conversation has died down a lot lately. I think people should either start to make some appeals for votes or maybe we should look into starting voting on the choices for next year?

Agreed. I'd suggest a poll for:

Castle of the Winds vs. Ultima IV
Metal Gear vs Monster World
PSO vs FFXI
Lost Vikings vs. Oddworld

and Maybe:
Longest Journey vs. Gabriel Knight
Eternal Champions vs. Warzard
-these two genres are less popular overall it seems...

if we do Blood in Oct, Deus Ex should be the FPS. If not, we should have a poll between them.

The least popular genres seem to be: Sim, 3D hack n slash, stealth, sports, and rhythm. I'd ditch those for this year.
