ePSXe filters and shaders

Post by corn619 »

I'm trying get ePSXe running well on my computer and most games work well. I'm trying to find the shader and filter plugins as seen on the great racket BOY article http://www.racketboy.com/retro/sony/ps1 ... tings.html but have been unsuccessful. Also I'm also wondering if my computers powerful enough to run these filters and shaders properly. I have a Toshiba laptop running XP, Dual core intel 1.73 GHz processor, 1GB RAM and a intergrated intel video card. The computer is only 1yr old, but I'm pretty sure you need a good video card and better specs. I'm hopeful someone can help me thanks.

You probably just need a dedicated graphics card and things should run really well since it's just the Playstation. You should try sticking one in if you can.

I've actually never seen that page on this site before. Good article and the screen shots do look great.

I'm sorry to say this but Intel GPUs are total rubbish. I have a dedicated GPU and the latest ePSXe is even more punishing on the hardware.

Corn, you haven't even said what your issue is. We can't help you if you dont explain the problem. Anyways, I assume you can't get the custom shaders to work. If so, you most likely either put them in the wrong folder or didn't enable them in the opengl2 settings, or your graphics chip doesn't have the capability, depending on the shader. It's not about the power of your graphics solution, but rather it's feature set. It's kind of a deal where it either works well, or not at all, depending on your setup. Any modern graphics card, like Geforce 7 and up, can pull this stuff off.

Also more pics of mine in the thread that basically spawned that article:

Intel chipsets support DirectX 9 and 10 on paper. Even if they work it's not worth it. He'll get a significant drop in fps. I seem to have a peformance issue with Pete's plugin as well, so I switched to pSX. Works like a charm if the game is fully supported.

There's more to it than simply having support for DirectX versions, but whatever.

Also I don't see why you attribute one video plugin to a failure on ePSXe's part, and switched to another emulator. You do realize theres a good dozen video plugins for ePSXe. If one doesn't work for you, try another. ePSXe is in fact more universally compatible than pSX, but pSX is far more idiot-proof, provided like you said, it supports your specific game.

I'll benchmark Pete's shaders on a Dell laptop with Intel GMA X3100 and I'll get back to you. I'll indeed be baffled if it performs better than my PC! (I tried nullDC and Shenmue and the framerate was just horrible, but Dreamcast emulation is more GPU intensive by nature)

Like the second sentence of my post says I'm having trouble finding these filter and shader plugins. Are they special plugins that you can download or are these hidden options in the Pete's openGL plugin. I can't find the options if its in the Pete's openGL plugin. Secondly will my computer run these shaders properly with my current specs or will I have to upgrade? That what I'm asking in a nutshell thanks.

I guess you didn't look at the article you originally linked.

Well Intel's GMA support for OpenGL is severely LACKING (using the latest official drivers). So, no pixel shaders at all. I even tried Serious Sam: The 2nd Encounter (whose renderer is based on an old OpenGL library) and even that Intel doesn't support. Intel sucks at everything beside making CPUs. I wonder if Microsoft will take their offer to make GPUs for their next console

Tip: Avoid buying laptops with Intel GMA chipsets.
